Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education: Absolutely do not let teachers teach extra lessons to their regular students

"The issue of extra teaching and learning will be very "hot" when the new school year begins. Ho Chi Minh City will drastically and thoroughly implement Circular 29 of the Ministry of Education and Training on extra teaching and learning. We are determined not to let teachers teach extra lessons to their regular students." That was the affirmation of Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, at the conference on education with the People's Committees of wards, communes, and special zones in Ho Chi Minh City on August 8.

Mr. Hieu said that extra classes are a real and practical need of students and extra teaching is also a normal need of teachers. However, all students in the city must have extra classes according to regulations.

"Extra teaching and learning in Ho Chi Minh City must be carried out in accordance with regulations, not allowing any student to be oppressed.

No teacher is allowed to tutor their own students. This is something the city will resolutely implement in the new school year," Mr. Hieu emphasized.

At the conference, the director of the Department of Education and Training of the city requested the People's Committees of 168 wards, communes, and special zones to implement the above content and strictly handle principals if they let teachers violate the rules of extra teaching.

Mr. Hieu believes that if the principal is strict, no teacher will dare to violate the regulations. When registering to teach outside, teachers must inform the principal where they teach, what the list of students at that center is like, etc. to declare on the software for managing extra teaching and learning. From there, it will be discovered whether the teacher is teaching his or her own students or not.

"This is to ensure students' right to study, equality and objectivity in extra teaching and learning. Wards and communes must strictly implement the directives so that in the new school year, students can go to school happily and joyfully, without any pressure from teachers," said Mr. Hieu.

According to the director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, most teachers are caring people who want their students to have fun and learn happily. The number of teachers who cause difficulties for students is not much, but it still exists. Therefore, properly implementing regulations on extra teaching and learning is a way to eliminate the situation of teachers causing difficulties for students.
