With the desire to connect Vietnamese - Korean literary exchanges, Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association, Nha Nam, Korean Literature Translation Institute and Van Lang University jointly organized the Vietnam - Korea Literary Meeting event in Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking at the event (held on July 16), President of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association Bich Ngan affirmed: " The Vietnamese - Korean Literature Meeting is the result of the connecting efforts of the Translation Literature Council (under the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association) chaired by Dr. - translator Nguyen Thi Hien. From that effectiveness, the Organizing Committee has connected activities with the Korean Literature Translation Institute - a cultural organization of the Korean government with a history of more than a quarter of a century, with a scale and strategy to promote Korean literature to the world, including Vietnam".
Also according to writer Bich Ngan: "Through the literary meeting between Vietnamese writers and Korean writers, in addition to exchanging about the profession, discussing the source of inspiration as well as the process of creating literary works, the Organizing Committee hopes to contribute to creating opportunities for the journey of promoting Vietnamese literature to the world and vice versa, to have favorable steps and create opportunities for the next international literary exchanges. Also from these international literary connections and cultural exchanges, we hope that the journey of bringing Vietnamese literature to world readers will gradually reduce difficulties (even deadlocks), if it receives proper attention from the state as well as related departments, so that good literary works can spread humanistic values, contributing to fulfilling the mission of cultural 'ambassadors'".
On this occasion, literature lovers witnessed the "meeting" between three writers who all have certain achievements in literary creation: Korean author Pyun Hye-young (whose books published in Vietnam are: Red Ashes and Deep Black Hole ) and two Vietnamese authors, poet Le Thieu Nhon and writer Tieu Quyen (whose works have won many awards).
Pyun Hye-young is known as one of the prominent writers of contemporary Korean literature, highly appreciated by critics. She published her book in 2000 and received many prestigious awards. Pyun Hye-young's works tend to be dystopian novels and blend psychological thriller elements.
Poet Le Thieu Nhon has published more than 10 books, including poems, satirical stories and literary criticism. He is currently a member of the Executive Committee, Head of the Young Writers Committee and a member of the Poetry Council (Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association). Le Thieu Nhon is currently the editorial secretary of the Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper.
Writer Bui Tieu Quyen has published more than 10 books, including short stories, novels, essays and is currently a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association, working at Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper.
Ms. Hien Nguyen, PhD in Korean Literature (Seoul National University), is currently Head of the Department of Korean Language and Culture - Van Lang University and Chairwoman of the Translation Literature Council (Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association).
The Vietnam - Korea Literary Meeting between Vietnamese and Korean writers took place very excitingly. In addition to exchanging about their profession, discussing inspirations as well as the process of creating literary works, this was also an opportunity to promote Vietnamese literature to the world, as well as creating momentum for the next international literary exchanges to be organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association and Korea in the future.
