In this year's exam, 66,927 candidates registered for exemption from the Foreign Language exam, accounting for 6.25% of the total number of candidates. Of which, Hanoi had 21,554 candidates; Ho Chi Minh City had 13,076 candidates. These are also the 2 localities with the most candidates.
In the 2023 high school graduation exam, the number of candidates registered for exemption from the Foreign Language exam nationwide was 46,670 candidates, accounting for about 4.5%.
According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, there are 2 subjects exempted from the Foreign Language exam in the recognition of high school graduation in 2024: Being a member of the national team participating in the International Olympic competition in Foreign Languages according to the Decision of the Minister of Education and Training; Candidates with one of the foreign language certificates prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training or foreign language certificates recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training equivalent to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam (achieving level 3 or higher).
Candidates exempted from the Foreign Language exam will be given 10 points for this exam to be considered for recognition of high school graduation.
This year, the Ministry of Education and Training added foreign language certificates exempted from English exams: B1 Preliminary English Certificate, B1 Business Preliminary, B1 Linguaskill; Aptis ESOL B1 Certificate; Pearson English International Certificate (PEIC) level 2; TOEIC certificate with 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing; Level 3 certificate according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam (VSTEP).
