Facebook removed 10 million fake accounts

On the afternoon of July 15, a representative of Meta, Facebook's parent company, said that in the first half of 2025 alone, Facebook had handled about 500,000 accounts that engaged in spam (sending junk content) or fake interactions, and applied measures such as limiting comments, reducing content distribution, and preventing these spam accounts from generating revenue.

The platform also removed about 10 million accounts impersonating major content producers.

However, the problem of spam content, from videos , images to posts, still appears frequently. This not only affects the user experience but also hinders content creators.

Measures to handle spam content

Meta will reduce distribution for all content from accounts that repeatedly reuse other people's content without permission, and suspend their ability to generate revenue.

For videos that are found to be duplicates, Facebook will prioritize the distribution of the original and reduce the visibility of copies. Meta is also testing a feature that links viewers back to the original content, ensuring the rights of creators.

Meta encourages creators to follow some of the principles below to make their content more accessible to viewers.

Facebook will roll out these updates over time to ensure creators on the platform are familiar with the change.

More transparency with creators

Meta also launched post-level insights on the Professional Dashboard, helping users understand why content is being restricted.

Additionally, in the Support section of their Page or professional profile, creators can track their account's distribution and revenue generation status.

Going forward, Meta will continue to update additional tools and policies to protect and support the content creation community.
