(NLDO) - Director of the Civil Aviation Authority Uong Viet Dung noted the plan to use buses as the main means of transporting passengers from Tan Son Nhat airport to the outside.

According to information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, on January 16, Director Uong Viet Dung had a working session with units on preparations for the 2025 Tet peak of the aviation industry in the Tan Son Nhat area, Ho Chi Minh City.

Director Uong Viet Dung assessed that this year, the number of flights increased to a record level, while the infrastructure has not changed much. Tan Son Nhat Airport is located in the city center, so it needs to be carefully prepared and come up with solutions to avoid being passive and serve the people best.

According to Director of the Southern Airport Authority Tran Doan Mau, this year, taxis cannot enter the airport to pick up passengers during rush hour due to traffic jams, leading to a shortage of vehicles and long waiting times for passengers.

During the peak Tet holiday, Tan Son Nhat airport is expected to have about 1,000 flights arriving and departing each day. It is very important to plan for the evacuation of people on the ground, as congestion at the airport will lead to delays and cancellations.

Speaking at the meeting, Director Uong Viet Dung emphasized that this is a time when the aviation industry is facing great pressure, and units need to continue to make efforts so that no passenger is left without service or without a means to return home.

Congestion at the airport during peak hours will affect service quality. In many cases, taxis and motorbike taxis refuse to travel short distances, making congestion worse.

Director Uong Viet Dung also noted the option of using buses as the main means of transportation. Buses will take passengers from the station to outside transfer points, where they can easily catch a taxi, motorbike taxi or be picked up by relatives.

Transit bus stops will be located in convenient areas, flexibly connecting to main routes, making it easy for passengers to continue their journey.

The Director proposed two locations next to the airport, suitable for connection: Pho Quang bus station (Pho Quang street, Tan Binh district) and Gia Dinh park. The buses must have identification badges, be given priority to quickly take passengers outside, and resolve congestion at the airport.

In addition, the Director also requested airlines to be ready to add more planes and increase flights to meet the high travel demand. Prepare carefully in terms of human resources, equipment, and close coordination between units to best handle the situation.

Customers reflect via hotline of Airport Authority

According to information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Tan Son Nhat Airport will serve a record high number of passengers during the Lunar New Year with 820-900 flights/day. The peak day will have 917 flights with 155 thousand passengers.

During the 7 days from December 29, Tan Son Nhat airport operated 6,100 flights and approximately 900,000 passengers, an increase of 8.7% in the number of flights and 4% in the number of passengers compared to the same period last year.

With the long Lunar New Year holiday, the number of passengers at airports, especially Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, is increasing, there is a possibility that at some times the domestic terminal will be locally congested, passengers may receive their luggage slower than usual.

The Civil Aviation Authority receives feedback and contributions from passengers through the hotlines of regional airport authorities (caa.gov.vn/tin-tuc/duong-day-nong-cua-cuc-hkvn-va-cac-cang-vu-hang-khong-20150724112912459.htm) to handle and fix problems that arise during the flight.
