On February 17 (the 8th day of the Lunar New Year), the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) held the first construction launch ceremony of the project to build metro line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) at Ben Thanh Central Station.
Mr. Bui Anh Huan - Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board said that metro line 2 project is one of two important national railway projects being implemented in Ho Chi Minh City.
In June 2022, MAUR held a groundbreaking ceremony for the technical infrastructure works for the electrical category. By December 2023, the selection of contractors for the relocation and reconstruction of water supply, drainage, lighting, signs, and traffic signals was completed.
"As of today, the technical infrastructure relocation work has met the conditions for simultaneous construction," MAUR leaders informed.
MAUR requested contractors to urgently mobilize workers and construction machinery. The drainage contractor will coordinate with water and electricity contractors to carry out construction work immediately after the ceremony to ensure the progress agreed upon by all parties, basically completing the relocation of technical infrastructure works in 2024 to be ready for handover to the main contractor for tunnel and station construction in 2025.
Metro Line 2 Project (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) was approved by the City People's Committee in 2010 and approved for adjustment in 2019 with a total investment of VND 47,890.84 billion using ODA loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the German Reconstruction Bank (KfW), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and counterpart funds from the budget.
