US Democrats Plan Big After Total Failure in 2024 Election, Starting Point for New Future

According to ABC News , current Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Jaime Harrison, who will not run for a second term, announced that starting in January 2025, four candidate forums will be held, both in person and online.

The final election is scheduled for February 1, 2025, with 448 DNC members casting ballots.

In addition to the chairman position, the Democratic Party will also elect other leadership positions such as vice chairman, treasurer, secretary and national finance chairman.

Members of the Rules & Regulations Committee are scheduled to meet on December 12 to establish the rules for these elections, especially the eligibility criteria for candidacy.

In 2021, candidates were required to submit a nomination statement that included the signatures of 40 DNC members, and it is likely that the same standard will apply in 2025.

The selection of a new leader for the DNC comes as the party grapples with a comprehensive defeat in the 2024 election, when it lost the presidency, control of the Senate and failed to win a majority in the US House of Representatives.

The next chairman of the committee will be tasked with rebuilding the party's morale, while also overseeing the complex and contentious 2028 nomination process.

According to the statement, the DNC is committed to conducting a transparent, fair and impartial election for the next generation of leaders to lead the party forward.

Two Democrats have already announced their candidacies for the chairmanship: DNC Vice Chairman Ken Martin and Martin O'Malley, former Maryland Governor and current commissioner of the Social Security Administration.

Other top Democrats considering a run to succeed Harrison include former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke, former party vice chairman Michael Blake, Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wikler, US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel, Sen. Mallory McMorrow and Chuck Rocha, a longtime strategist.
