“The Palestinians are not going anywhere. The Palestinian people have the right to defend themselves,” Ambassador Husam Zomlot told Al Jazeera , adding that they would fight “for 100 years and another 100 years if necessary.”

The Palestinian diplomat stressed that Western countries need to understand that “ignoring” the Palestinian issue will not bring peace.

In another development, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on October 8 that Ankara is determined to increase diplomatic efforts to achieve peace.

Speaking in Istanbul, Mr. Erdogan said that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve regional peace and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital is necessary now.

In connection with this latest fighting, according to Palestinian health officials, the number of Palestinians killed by Israel's relentless shelling and rocket fire into this narrow strip of land on the Mediterranean coast is 370, with more than 2,200 injured.

Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that at least 659 people have been killed and 2,156 injured in Israel since Hamas forces in the Gaza Strip launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7.
