According to Tech Unwrapped , in preparation for this change, Intel has dropped the Pentium and Celeron names. These processors will now be called Intel N and Core 3-Nxxx, and will be energy-efficient solutions for mini PCs, laptops, and tablets.
New Name for Upcoming Meteor Lake CPUs
Next, the Intel Core processor line will be split into two, Core and Core Ultra. In addition, the processors will no longer have the letter "i" as before, for example, Core i3 will become Core 3. This means that, since the launch of Meteor Lake processors, Core i3, i5, i7 and i9 will no longer exist and will be replaced by Core 3, 5 and 7 for regular laptop or desktop systems. Meanwhile, high-performance laptops or desktops with overclocking capabilities will use Core Ultra 5, Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 9 CPUs.
The report points out that all of these changes do not affect the design of the processor and are purely commercial changes. Obviously, the purpose of the change is to compete with AMD's Ryzen CPUs.
High-performance CPU line will be called Intel Core
A few years ago, the company launched the Evo certification program, which established a set of requirements that all laptops that wanted to receive the label had to meet, including Intel CPUs, high-performance SSDs, Thunderbolt connectivity, long battery life, and more. Now, the name has been changed to the Intel Evo Edition platform, making it easier for users to find laptops that have been verified and certified by the company.
The company also introduced Intel vPro Enterprise and vPro Essential for business PCs. This line of processors features additional security elements in addition to the features found in regular CPUs.
