Ho Chi Minh City Police Club determined to return to its golden age

Established in 1979, in the 1990s, along with Saigon Port, Customs, Ho Chi Minh City Police Club (CATP) were three big names with rich traditions in football in the city named after Uncle Ho. During its golden age, CATP Club won many noble titles.

Notable achievements include winning the national championship in 1995, finishing second in the 1993-1994, 1996, 1999-2000 and 2001-2002 seasons. At the end of 2002, CATP Club was dissolved.

Determined to achieve the highest level of success

Now, the CATP Club has returned after receiving much attention from the Central Public Security Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security for sports work in general and high-performance sports in particular.

With the desire to turn CATP Club into a strong football team of the whole country, returning to its position as the pride of the People's Public Security force in previous years, last July, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City transferred the HCMC Club to the Ho Chi Minh City Police and changed its name to CATP Club.

The launching and departure ceremony of the CATP Club took place solemnly, receiving much attention from the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and Ho Chi Minh City.

At the ceremony, the CATP Club announced the leadership positions of the Club. Colonel Luong Duc Minh - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department - was appointed as the Club's President.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Colonel Luong Duc Minh said: "In the 2025-2026 season, we have determined that our key goal is to compete with great effort and determination to achieve the highest results. Above all, the CATP Club will always demonstrate a disciplined, courageous, united, honest and dedicated playing style, in line with the tradition of the People's Public Security force."

Imprint in the hearts of fans

At the ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc shared that he and everyone present at the ceremony were extremely moved by the return of the name CATP Club.

He said: "The restoration and development of CATP Club not only contributes to the development of city football, but also makes a practical contribution to the development of national sports , bringing joy, spirit and new momentum to the people of the city. I wish CATP Club success in competition, steady progress on the new journey, many outstanding achievements and leaving a golden mark in the hearts of fans nationwide."

Preparing for the return, CATP Club has invited former player Le Huynh Duc to lead the team along with assistants Phung Thanh Phuong, Hoang Hung and Chau Chi Cuong. These are all "old people" of CATP Club before. The team also has many stars, notably overseas Vietnamese goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang and the current "Vietnam Golden Ball 2024" Nguyen Tien Linh.

Regarding foreign players, it is worth noting that CATP Club is preparing to sign a contract with Matheus Felipe (Brazil) - a 1.86m tall central defender valued at 1 million euros by transfermarkt. This is the foreign player with the highest price record in V-League history.
