Born in 1996 in Quang Binh, Hoang Khac Hieu is currently Head of Development Department 2 at the Government Solutions Center (Viettel Solutions). He has been a grassroots Emulation Fighter at Viettel Solutions for 4 consecutive years since 2021, and achieved the title of "Emulation Fighter of the Whole Army" in 2024. Hoang Khac Hieu is also one of the young people nominated for the title of Outstanding Young Face of Vietnam in 2024.

Accept challenges, constantly learn to grow

Hoang Khac Hieu has been passionate about information technology (IT) since he was a child. After graduating from the IT specialized class at Quang Binh High School for the Gifted, he continued to pursue IT at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (2015-2019).

Initially, Hieu only intended to become a software developer, but the opportunities at Viettel Group opened up a new path for him. From an intern in 2018 who only participated in developing smartphone devices at Viettel, in 2019, this young engineer officially joined Viettel Solutions, creating a major turning point in his work, requiring a solid grasp of technical foundations and experience in customer contact and project management skills.

Just after a week of getting used to the new job, Hieu - a fresh graduate - had to quickly join the first business trip, survey customer needs, deploy the system and provide professional training to customers with a scale of up to 40 people, but the experience from when he was a collaborator helped him get used to the culture and working style at Viettel.

Continuously taking on challenges and surpassing his own limits, a memorable milestone in Hieu's career is the "Green Stream" project during Covid-19. In just two weeks, he and the Viettel engineering team worked day and night to develop a solution, completely replacing the old system, ensuring smooth traffic nationwide. Hieu is always proud to contribute to the country during difficult times. Each such project helps Hoang Khac Hieu learn more skills, become more mature in his expertise and work.

With his youth and constant creativity, Hieu is also the author of many initiatives on effective technology application in practice, bringing important values ​​to Viettel Solutions. A typical example is the project to build a common application development platform (Base template framework) for the Government Solution Center.

“I have proactively researched Viettel's technologies such as microservices, cloud, CI/CD, based on the general strategy of the Corporation, surveyed, tested and created a unified technology framework. Unifying the common development platform across the entire unit will help solve the problem of resource and technology fragmentation, increase production speed and work efficiency, especially for difficult requests in urgent time. Standardizing the shared service architecture around development work helps the unit's technology experts master the product,” Hieu explained.

“Vietnam can also do things that make the world admire”

During his time working at the Government Solutions Center, Hieu left his mark with a series of outstanding projects. The traffic fine monitoring system - a product that he considers his "brainchild", carefully meets customer needs, gradually improves and has become an important component of more than 30 Smart Traffic Monitoring projects in the smart city ecosystem at home and abroad. Not stopping there, Hieu always strives to find ways to expand the development space for his own products to become better versions.

The 1996-born guy is also the person behind the TrafficID project – a solution in the smart traffic ecosystem in Peru. And the most memorable is the project in Dubai, where the Head of Development in charge of researching and producing the ITS (Intelligent Traffic) system is the representative of Viettel presenting the product to international customers.

Hieu shared that this is a project that changes his thinking and opens up many opportunities for himself. Hieu is confident in his ability to help customers in countries with developed economies solve their “pain” problems.

“When my project team and I presented the traffic monitoring solution integrating AI right on the camera and 5G technology, the customers were very surprised, they exclaimed: 'I didn't expect Vietnam to be able to make a product like this',” Hieu recalled. Receiving positive reviews, he felt extremely proud to contribute to bringing the Make in Vietnam product to the international market and being recognized.

In the near future, Vietel Solutions will take on more difficult problems, develop solutions to meet Vietnam's growth goals... requiring Hieu and his team to be more mature in managing foreign projects, understanding local laws and coordinating smoothly, providing practical construction solutions in countries.

There will be many difficulties, but it is these challenges that have ignited a new aspiration for Hoang Khac Hieu: “I want to build Viettel brand products of national stature. Furthermore, I also hope to bring Vietnamese technology to the world, proving that we can master technology on par with international standards.”

Balance, teamwork and a passion for constant innovation

Looking back on his journey, the 9X department head shared his favorite lessons: “To do well on large projects, one must have solid expertise in project management and programming technology to solve all problems. There needs to be a balance between production goals and business goals. The development of digital technology products needs to be closely linked to practical efficiency, avoiding getting carried away with high-tech that will derail the project’s time and cost.”

“And the most important thing is teammates. When participating in important projects, a good team has the ability to coordinate well, each person has their own ability, different perspectives, can complement each other, help each other solve problems, and synthesize a collective strength,” Hieu emphasized.

To young people pursuing the information technology industry, he advised: “As a young generation with many ambitions, let’s build passion and a desire to constantly learn, because the technology industry changes very quickly – if you don’t update your knowledge and skills, you will easily be left behind. When you fail, don’t give up, but remember the lessons from it to grow up. Opportunities only come when you are ready to seize them.”

With his groundbreaking contributions, Hoang Khac Hieu is a typical example of the young generation of Vietnam: daring to think, daring to do, always striving to bring Vietnamese products and people to the world.
