To compete for the domestic championship title, the "military" team not only renewed its coaching staff but also recruited many high-class new players.
Damian Vu Thanh An is one of four Vietnamese-American players expected to help the team quickly regain its leading position on the V-League map. The Vietnamese-Polish midfielder impressed when he scored his first goal in the V-League after only 2 minutes on the field.

In the match against Ho Chi Minh City Police Club in round 2 of V-League 2025-2026 at Hang Day Stadium on August 22, when the foreign strikers of The Cong Viettel wasted too many scoring opportunities, Coach Popov sent Damian Vu Thanh An onto the field in the 81st minute. Two minutes later, Damian Vu Thanh An accelerated, actively putting pressure on the opponent's defense, causing mistakes, thereby scoring to raise the score to 2-0 for the home team.
Damian Vu Thanh An has a Vietnamese father and a Polish mother. The Vietnamese-American striker is 1.83 m tall, can play as a midfielder or striker, and has played in professional tournaments in Poland since the age of 16.
Leaving his mark in his first time participating in the V-League, Damian Vu Thanh An was highly appreciated by coach Popov for his professional ability. The Bulgarian strategist commented that Damian showed confidence when he was given the opportunity to enter the field for the first time. He assessed his student as a player with rich technique, speed, agility and enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, experts believe that Damian will soon become a mainstay of the "soldier" team if he continuously gains practical experience in Vietnam's top playground. For his part, the new recruit of The Cong Viettel Club shared: "I have always wanted to play in Vietnam and from the first day I came to The Cong Viettel, I wanted to stick with and contribute to this team."
Shining in his debut match in the V-League, Damian must have also scored points with coach Kim Sang-sik, when the Korean strategist directly attended the match at Hang Day Stadium on August 22.
Damian has not completed the procedures for obtaining Vietnamese citizenship but is a candidate to be included in the list of U22 Vietnam to participate in men's football at the 33rd SEA Games, which will take place in December 2025 in Thailand.
