Child falls into trap of easy job with high salary, father takes hundreds of millions to redeem

The case of a male student from the University of Information Technology (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) who was found by his family after more than two months of mysterious disappearance recently once again warns of the situation of students being scammed by the trap of "easy work, high salary".

For the past two months, the family of this male student has been searching for him with extreme anxiety and fear. In the first days of his disappearance, the father quit his job and left his hometown for Ho Chi Minh City, contacting everywhere in the hope of getting some information about his son.

In response to the father's anxiety and worry at that time, "there was not a single piece of information about his son". He hoped that his son was still somewhere, and had not encountered the worst situation when he sometimes saw that his son's Zalo was still showing that he had just accessed it a few minutes ago. The father's belief was correct when his son returned home after more than two months of being missing.

According to information from the family, when he returned home, the boy said he was lured into a high-paying office job in Tay Ninh. However, the subjects took him to work at a wood workshop in the border area between Cambodia and Thailand.

Recently, this male student used his phone to contact his family and demand a ransom of 250 million VND. The family negotiated and paid 150 million VND to bring their son back.

The case is currently under further investigation by the authorities.

Just a few months ago, a student at a famous university in Ho Chi Minh City, while looking for a job, also encountered a group of "easy work, high salary" scammers but was lucky to escape by a hair's breadth in a spectacular way.

Specifically, after submitting job applications to many places, the student received a call with a request to add him as a friend on Zalo, ask for an email to confirm, schedule an interview date and was confirmed to have been accepted for an internship at a warehouse in Long An.

As promised, the company car picked up the candidate from An Suong bus station, Ho Chi Minh City. At first, there was only the student and the driver, but along the way, they picked up some other people. At that time, the scammers used electric batons to force the student, took his belongings and phone, and drove straight to the border gate in Tay Ninh. At the border gate, he was transferred to another car to be taken to Cambodia with two other victims.

When he arrived in Cambodia, the group changed vehicles to continue taking him. Taking advantage of the darkness, despite being beaten to the point of exhaustion, the student tried to escape.

Easily fooled because of the psychology of enjoyment?

After the above incident, a series of universities in Ho Chi Minh City immediately spoke out to warn students about scams through the form of "easy work, high salary".

Mr. Tran Thanh Thuong, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, noted that students who intend to work part-time must research carefully, go to reputable places or go through the school's job referral channel to find a job.

In particular, students need to be careful with jobs that are beautifully introduced such as; earning tens of millions per month; jobs that only require typing documents, evaluating products...

The tricks of seduction and solicitation of easy work with high salaries seem to only be able to attract people with limited education and few opportunities to access information.

But no, university students - those who are studying hard in the lecture hall, the young people with the most access to information - are also easily scammed by offers of easy, high-paying jobs.

The manager of a university in Ho Chi Minh City also said that current forms of fraud are so sophisticated and difficult to identify that many students have fallen victim to fraud when looking for jobs.

The scam group preys on students' desire to find a job and earn money, which he believes is a legitimate need when many students have to pay for tuition and living expenses.

However, what he is concerned about is that students seem to be very vulnerable to being lured and scammed. Not only recent scams, but there have been many cases of students falling into "dirty" multi-level marketing schemes, defrauding their parents, relatives, and friends out of the idea of... making money easily.

"Students, those who are educated, have a high level of awareness, and have access to information, should understand better than anyone else about hard work, the value of labor, and the value of money. But, you are easily lured and deceived, is it because of the mentality of enjoying life and the mentality of getting rich quickly?", he expressed.

According to this manager, it is not only about equipping students with anti-fraud skills, but more importantly, children need to be educated about the value of work, study, money, skills, problem analysis... from a young age, right from their family and school.
