Affirming historical stature and contemporary value
In his opening speech at the conference, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia emotionally recalled that before the historic autumn of 1945, our country was plunged into a long night of slavery. More than 80 years under the domination of French colonialism had pushed the nation into a state of exhaustion and desolation; the rights to life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness were mercilessly trampled.
In 1940, Japanese fascists invaded Indochina, the French colonialists immediately surrendered, pushing the Vietnamese people into a situation of "one neck, two yokes", being exploited both physically and mentally.

During those dark days, the flame of revolution still smoldered. Since its inception in 1930, the Communist Party of Vietnam, under the light of Marxism-Leninism, steadfastly led the people in the struggle through the climaxes of 1930-1931, 1936-1939, 1939-1945; built political and armed forces; enlightened and organized the masses; established revolutionary bases, ready to seize historical opportunities.
In August 1945, when the Japanese fascists surrendered to the Allies, a once-in-a-thousand-years opportunity appeared. In just 15 days, under the flag of the Party and Uncle Ho, the entire nation rose up in a general uprising, breaking the chains of slavery and taking power into the hands of the people. On September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the provisional government, solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, declaring to the world: “Vietnam has the right to freedom and independence, and in fact has become a free and independent country…”.
The August Revolution not only had great significance for the Vietnamese people, but also had a profound influence on the national liberation movement in the world. From this victory, many invaluable historical lessons were drawn: The leadership role of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh is the decisive factor in all victories; knowing how to seize opportunities; promoting the strength of great national unity; having absolute trust in the people.
In order for the conference to achieve good results, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested focusing on discussing three key groups of issues: Deeply analyzing and explaining the historical context, developments and factors that created the great victory of the August Revolution and National Day September 2; affirming the historical stature and contemporary value of this victory, thereby affirming that the path of national independence associated with socialism is an inevitable choice, in accordance with the laws of development and trends of the times.
Second, inherit and promote the theoretical and practical values of the victory of the August Revolution in the current revolutionary cause; especially the lesson on "Party's will - people's heart", on the art of winning and maintaining power, in order to consolidate the great national unity.
Third, creatively apply those values and lessons in the work of building, developing and defending the Fatherland in the new era.

According to the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2) is an occasion to pay tribute to previous generations, all walks of life and international friends who have contributed and sacrificed for the Vietnamese revolution. This is also a call for the entire Party, people and army to continue to unite, promote patriotism, self-reliance and the desire to rise up strongly.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia believes that the enthusiastic opinions, research results and scientific arguments at the workshop will contribute to clarifying the theoretical and practical values of the August Revolution; affirming the revolutionary path that the Party and Uncle Ho have chosen; consolidating confidence, creating high unity of will and action so that the entire Party, people and army will firmly pursue the goal of national independence associated with socialism, firmly defend the Fatherland, and fight to defeat all wrong and hostile plots and viewpoints.
"From the light of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, we have more confidence in new miracles in the cause of construction, development and integration, firmly entering the era of wealth, civilization and prosperity," Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized.
