According to Reuters news agency, Sudan's Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that the country requested to hold a meeting with US officials to prepare for peace talks.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Washington had invited the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to participate in ceasefire negotiations in Switzerland.
Saudi Arabia will co-chair the event, while representatives from the African Union, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations (UN) will attend as observers.
RSF has also announced that it will participate in the US-brokered peace talks.
Regarding the timing of the event, on the same day, Director of the UN Geneva Information Agency Alessandra Vellucci said that the peace talks will be held in Geneva in mid-August and the world's largest multilateral organization will have representatives attending.
The conflict in Sudan that broke out in April 2023 - between the RSF led by General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo and the SAF loyal to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan - has left tens of thousands dead, with US Special Envoy to Sudan Tom Perriello estimating that the number could be as high as 150,000.
More than 10 million people have been displaced by the fighting. The UN assesses that Sudan is facing the world's largest internal displacement crisis.
