Many private school students passed the entrance exam.

Previously, in the official list of teams participating in national and international competitions in Hanoi, there were mainly students from specialized high schools; there were very rarely students from non-specialized public schools and no students from private schools or international schools.

However, in the past few years, the appearance of the Hanoi student team competing in the competition has changed significantly; demonstrated by the fact that there are quite a few students from regular schools, private schools, and international schools on the official competition list.

Participating in the national high school student selection exam for the 2024-2025 school year, the Hanoi student team has 260 students from 16 schools, competing in 13 subjects (math, physics, chemistry, biology, informatics, literature, history, geography, English, Russian, French, Chinese, Japanese).

In addition to students from specialized schools, this year's team includes many students from non-specialized public high schools, such as: Nguyen Gia Thieu High School; Kim Lien High School; Viet Duc High School, Tran Hung Dao High School - Ha Dong, Phan Huy Chu High School - Dong Da, Ngo Quyen High School - Ba Vi.

For private schools, the team members include students from the following schools: Newton Secondary and High School; Japan International Primary, Secondary and High School; Doan Thi Diem High School; Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School; Nguyen Binh Khiem Secondary and High School - Cau Giay; Hoang Long High School (Ba Dinh).

Regarding the appearance of private school students participating in national and international competitions, we can mention the case of Newton Inter-level School. In 2023, Newton was the first private school to have students compete and win the highest prize in the whole group with a Silver Medal at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), that was Hoang Pham Minh Khanh. At the IJSO in 2024, among the 6 official members competing, there were 2 students from Newton Secondary and High School (Vuong Ha Chi and Vu Nhat Long).

In addition, at the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) 2024, the Vietnamese team had 24 students participating, of which 9 were students from Newton School. With 100% of its members winning medals, Newton School was the school with the most medals, contributing to the high achievements of the entire Vietnamese team.

Innovation in selection

In 2024, the international achievements of Hanoi students continued to increase compared to previous years. Promoting the achievements and wishing to select the best students, creating fairness for capable and passionate students studying at all high schools in the city, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has developed a plan to select the team and move the team training schedule forward.

For example, in the selection of the national excellent student team for the 2024-2025 school year, the selection of the team was organized systematically. The whole city had more than 2,200 students participating in the selection of the team in 13 subjects. As a result, 260 of the best students were registered for the Hanoi team to compete in the national competition.

In the selection exam for the International Junior Science Olympiad IJSO 2024, 226 students from 14 high schools in the city registered to participate. Based on the results of students taking the exam in all 5 subjects: math, physics, chemistry, biology, English; The Organizing Committee selected, ranked and selected 6 students with the best results to officially become members of the Vietnamese team to compete in Runami. The IJSO 2024 team's departure ceremony was just solemnly held by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to congratulate and encourage the students.

Believing that the innovations in the selection of excellent students to participate in national and international competitions by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training are correct, the representative of the leadership of Newton Secondary and High School shared that the selection method not only helps to improve the quality of training but also creates fairness for all students and schools.

Being the first year that a student has made it to the national Japanese team, representatives of Hoang Long High School were truly surprised and proud. The school is very honored and happy that its student, Le Nhat Minh, has the opportunity to compete in a large and prestigious playground. In addition to the efforts of the student and his teachers, this opportunity is due to the innovation in the team selection process of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
