Exhuma: Tomb Raider is still the "dominant" factor at the box office, not only in its home country of Korea but also in other Asian countries such as Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan....

In Vietnam, the film set a record by becoming the fastest Korean film to surpass 100 billion in box office history after 7 days of release.

'Not suitable for the formula of making a hundred billion movie'

Tomb Raider is a horror and mystery film that incorporates elements of Korean culture and history. Previously, the film ever been Korean media commented that it is not suitable for the current hundred billion box office formula.

Even director Jang Jae Hyeon only hoped to break even when releasing the film.

However, "Quất Mộ Trung Ma" went against initial speculations and rose strongly thanks to its attractive, engaging content and talented cast.

However, there are also many opinions that the film has many points that are difficult to understand for foreign audiences, especially audiences outside of Asia.

Speaking about this issue, the director also admitted that the film would be much better if the audience were Korean or could understand the details in the film.

Although Exhuma: Tomb Raider was a huge success, many experts say it is still difficult to guarantee the success of subsequent films in the mystery genre, because this is a genre that is quite selective of viewers.

Therefore, many suggestions have been made that director Jang Jae Hyun should make a sequel to inherit the resounding success of the film and further decipher what happens next to the four central characters when they successfully destroy a dangerous spiritual force.

Grave Digging Ghost Part 2

In an interview with The Korea Herald , director Jang Jae Hyun said he has no intention of making a sequel.

"Actually, my filmmaking philosophy doesn't match that. For me, only when I come across a good story, do I intend to learn more about it and build a suitable story and characters for the film.

So continuing to exploit it for commercial success is not in my production plan. I just always remind myself to make a film that is interesting to watch because I am the first audience to come to see my film."

In addition, the talented director of Tomb Raider also shared with The Korea Herald that he feels very happy to bring traditional culture closer to young Koreans and more broadly, international audiences.

"The themes of feng shui, traditional rituals, and ancestor worship are receiving public attention and are being discussed enthusiastically. That is the core that I want to bring through the film because those things are deeply attached to Korean culture."

Previously, director Jang Jae Hyun made his mark through two films, Black Priests and Sabaha, which also exploited the spiritual and mystical genre. But his most successful work is Exhuma: Ghost Tomb Digger .
