On the afternoon of February 26, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh received a delegation from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Ms. Lina Gandløse Hansen, Secretary of State - Deputy Minister.

Participating in the reception of the delegation, on the side of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment were Director of the Department of International Cooperation Le Ngoc Tuan; Director of the Department of Climate Change Tang The Cuong; Director of the Department of Environmental Pollution Control Hoang Van Thuc; Director of the Department of Environment Nguyen Hung Thinh; Chief of the Ministry's Office Pham Tan Tuyen; Deputy Director of the Department of Vietnam Seas and Islands Truong Duc Tri; Deputy Chief of the Office of the Party Committee, Secretary of the Minister Nguyen Tien Duy.

On the Danish side, there were Mr. Nicolai Prytz, Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam; Mr. Thomas Lund-Sørensen, Director General for Asia, Latin America, Oceania and the Caribbean; Ms. Mete Ekeroth, Deputy Head of Mission of Denmark; Ms. Lone Thorup, Chief Counselor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Troels Jakobsen, Commercial Counselor; Ms. Lucca Harbo Pedersen-Ulrich, Political Officer at the Embassy of Denmark; Ms. Vu Hai Ha, Liaison Officer at the Embassy.

At the reception, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh and Deputy Minister Lina Gandløse Hansen agreed that Vietnam and Denmark have a very special friendship and cooperation relationship demonstrated through comprehensive cooperation and exchange activities between the two countries.

In particular, for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Denmark is a traditional partner. In the past, Denmark actively supported the Ministry in environmental protection and climate change response.

The two leaders said that after Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had an online meeting and adopted a Joint Statement establishing a Green Strategic Partnership, this will be an important cooperation document, contributing to consolidating and deepening the partnership between Vietnam and Denmark in the new period, meeting the sustainable development requirements of each country and in line with the global trend.

Deputy Minister Lina Gandløse Hansen said that Denmark has advantages in developing offshore wind power; building climate change adaptation programs; exploiting and evaluating geological and mineral potential; protecting the environment... therefore, she hopes that through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, cooperation between specialized agencies and businesses will be further promoted towards common goals. At the same time, Deputy Minister Lina Gandløse Hansen also wants to share about Vietnam's commitments after COP28 and JETP.

Speaking with Ms. Lina Gandløse Hansen, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh said that Vietnam is currently actively implementing its commitments to the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 and implementing the JETP. Vietnam is one of the first three developing countries in the world to join the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) with the International Partnership Group with very ambitious goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and developing renewable energy to replace coal-fired thermal power.

Regarding the Resource Mobilization Plan to implement JETP Vietnam, which was announced by Vietnam and international partners at COP28, the Minister requested the Deputy Minister to report to the Danish Government to promote the participation of Danish enterprises in investment cooperation in green fields such as renewable energy industry, especially offshore wind power development commensurate with Vietnam's potential, thereby contributing to the implementation of the Political Declaration on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) in which Denmark is a participating partner.

Regarding other areas of cooperation prospects, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh hopes that Denmark will continue to support Vietnam in enhancing capacity and management experience to implement commitments, including supporting specific projects of mutual interest, while helping Vietnam promote its potential and perfect its policy institutions to contribute to the implementation of global goals on sustainable development, green transformation and climate change response.

Minister Dang Quoc Khanh assigned specialized units of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to work with Danish agencies and partners to implement cooperation programs and projects.

Minister Dang Quoc Khanh and Ms. Lina Gandløse Hansen, Secretary of State - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, hope that after today's visit and working session, the fields and cooperation activities between the two sides will be further expanded and promoted, especially in implementing the results of COP26 and Vietnam's commitments in the future.
