Helicopters of the 18th Corps perform rescue flights

At around 3:00 p.m. on August 1, the Department of Rescue and Relief received information from the Operations Department of the General Staff, Military Region 2, stating that at around 2:50 p.m. on August 1, in Anh Trung village, Muong Hung commune, Son La province, 8 people were trapped and isolated due to floods.

The Department of Rescue and Relief has coordinated with the Air Defense - Air Force and the 18th Army Corps to agree to be ready to use helicopters and air search and rescue forces to rescue 8 trapped and isolated people.

The Department of Rescue and Relief requested the Ministry's Command to report to the Chief of the General Staff and the Chief of the Ministry of National Defense to direct the use of 1 helicopter and air search and rescue forces to coordinate with Military Region 2 and forces at the scene to rescue 8 people trapped and isolated.

The Ministry of National Defense has directed the 18th Army Corps to conduct a search and rescue flight in Son La province. The aircraft numbered VN-8624 took off at 3:54 p.m. the same day and is expected to arrive at the scene at 4:50 p.m.

According to a report from the Military Region 2's Operations Command, on the night of July 31 and the morning of August 1, heavy rain occurred in Son La province, accompanied by flash floods, causing serious damage to people and property.

Heavy rains caused localized flooding in Pung Banh and Muong Lan communes, with no casualties or property damage yet estimated. In Lang Cheu village, Ta Xua commune alone, a 26-meter landslide occurred, affecting two households and a kindergarten, but fortunately there were no casualties. Local militia forces were mobilized for initial relief.

Faced with the above situation, the Department of Rescue and Relief (General Staff) issued an urgent dispatch, requesting Military Region 2 to continue directing the Military Command of Son La province to advise local Party committees and authorities to direct functional agencies to continue monitoring and grasping weather developments, inspecting and reviewing areas at risk of further incidents, and promptly reporting when other situations arise.

At the same time, mobilize forces and means to focus on searching for missing people, rescuing the injured, and participating in overcoming consequences and incidents. During the implementation of the task, ensure absolute safety of forces and means.

In addition, it is recommended that Military Region 2 organize the implementation and report the results of the remedial measures to the General Staff (through the Ministry's Command and the Department of Rescue and Relief) for the Ministry to monitor and direct.
