According to Dr. Trinh Thu Tuyet (former literature teacher, Chu Van An High School, Hanoi), about the last week before the first exam, students still have enough time to review the knowledge and skills they have been equipped with and review, preparing themselves in the best mindset to be calm, confident, and victorious.
First of all, you should check your skills to answer each type of question in the exam. You need to review the basic knowledge units in the exam model from 2017 to present with three parts: Reading comprehension, writing social argumentative paragraphs, writing literary argumentative essays.
The Reading Comprehension section always includes a reading text and 4 reading comprehension questions arranged according to cognitive levels from recognition, understanding, application to high application. Students need to recognize the signals of each type of question to have an appropriate answer method, avoiding giving redundant or incomplete answers.

For example, recognition questions often focus on two requirements: either to identify a feature of the text form such as poetry, language style, method of expression, etc.; or to find details of the text content that match the directional content in the command. When doing the test, students need to read the material carefully, correctly identify the text form feature or text content detail , without analyzing and interpreting.
For comprehension questions , candidates need to explain the literal, figurative, metaphorical, and symbolic meanings (if any) if the question requires explaining a concept; or must base on the connotation of the meaning of the opinion or concept to thoroughly explain and convince the opinion or concept that is required to clarify the understanding.
Application questions often require candidates to identify and analyze the value of rhetorical devices, the effect of using words..., in a text, in a sentence, or a paragraph. Candidates need to apply their knowledge of Vietnamese, rhetoric, literature, life..., to correctly identify and analyze the expressive value and emotional value of rhetorical devices or words, images according to the requirements of the question.
High-level application questions often require expressing emotions, thoughts, attitudes , and especially personal opinions on a statement, message, or issue raised in a reading text. With questions that require expressing emotions and thoughts about a phenomenon, event, etc., students need to answer briefly, sincerely, and honestly about their personal thoughts and feelings, avoiding stereotypes, clichés, and slogans.
With the question " Do you agree...?/Why ?", students need to correctly identify their thoughts and perceptions in order to discuss thoroughly and closely. There may be many options: agree, disagree, agree but with limitations, conditions, exceptions... The most important part is to answer the question "Why?" with a tight, honest, and convincing argument.

The sentence of writing a social argumentative paragraph always has the argumentative content organically related to the main content of the reading comprehension text. Students need to pay special attention to ensuring two requirements regarding the content and form of the paragraph: Regarding the content, only discuss one aspect, one plane of the problem (cause, meaning, consequence, solution, lesson...), absolutely do not turn the paragraph into a miniature essay with all aspects of the problem; regarding the form, it is necessary to write the correct paragraph structure, write the correct capacity according to the requirements in the command of the topic...
The literary essay occupies the highest score in the exam, requiring students to spend the most time and effort. During this time, students need to actively review once again the basic knowledge units about authors and works in the 12th grade Literature program, remembering the main content and artistic values of each essay.
It is necessary to accurately determine the argumentative requirements expressed in the statement of the topic, and according to the model of recent years, the topic usually has two statements. The main statement usually requires analysis or perception of a text passage learned in the 12th grade textbook program, the secondary statement usually requires from that analysis and perception, to draw a comment on a specific content or artistic value in the text or paragraph.
After determining the argumentative requirements, you should briefly outline the direction of the argumentative content so that the writing process is not rambling or sketchy, lacking ideas. If the Social Argumentative paragraph requires the expression of a brave and honest ego, the Literary Argumentative essay requires the ability to perceive delicately, analyze deeply and have sincere feelings.
