On the morning of June 5, Dong Nai Province Police announced that they had just arrested Hua Nghiep Thang (49 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) to investigate fraud. Thang impersonated a police officer of Bien Hoa City (Dong Nai) to defraud a clinic that is being investigated by Bien Hoa City Police in an insurance fraud case. The amount of money that Thang defrauded from the clinic's owner was more than 500 million VND.

According to initial investigation, on the morning of May 30, through information on social networks, Thang learned that Bien Hoa City Police were coordinating with related units to search many private clinics in Bien Hoa City to clarify the act of falsifying documents such as health certificates, medical records for workers who need sick leave to be paid social insurance and health insurance.

Among the clinics inspected was T.D. Clinic (Tan Hiep Ward, Bien Hoa City), so Thang had the idea of ​​​​fraud. Thang found the phone number of Mr. BVX (the legal representative of the clinic). On the evening of May 30, Thang called, pretending to be a police officer of Bien Hoa City, demanding that Mr. BVX hand over 500 million VND to "run the case", and also threatening to arrest Mr. X. when he finished his treatment.

Mr. X. thought it was real and was afraid, so he agreed to pay 300 million VND, but Thang said it was too little and asked for the full 500 million VND. After agreeing, Thang asked Mr. BVX to buy a junk phone SIM card and an old Nokia phone to communicate and send someone to deliver the money to him.

Early in the morning of May 31, Thang rode a motorbike from Ho Chi Minh City to Bien Hoa City to receive the money. Mr. BVX's family brought 500 million VND, put it in a black bag and left it on the grass of the median strip of Nguyen Ai Quoc Street (opposite the Bien Hoa City Police Station) as requested by Thang. After receiving the money, Thang used it to pay off his loan debt for football betting and personal expenses.

As for Mr. BVX's family, after handing over the money, they suspected they had been scammed and immediately called Thang but the subscriber could not be reached so they reported it to the police.

Upon receiving the report, the Criminal Police Department of Dong Nai Province Police investigated and arrested Thang while he was hiding in Ho Chi Minh City. Working with the police, Thang admitted all his crimes.
