In the opening match of the World Championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team lost 1-3 to the world's third-ranked team, Poland, in Phuket, Thailand. This was a match in which coach Tuan Kiet's team won the first set but then lost the next three sets to a very strong opponent.

Although unable to cause any surprises, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team still received praise from the Chinese press. Newspaper 163 emphasized: "Poland really had a hard time against the Vietnamese women's volleyball team.
Coach Tuan Kiet's team, despite the absence of key player Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, still demonstrated the typical playing style of Asian volleyball.
Poland, the world's third-ranked volleyball team, suffered a shock defeat in the first set against the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. Despite having no experience in participating in a world tournament, Coach Tuan Kiet's students showed positive results.
Before the tournament, their key player Bich Tuyen withdrew, leaving their squad with only 13 players. In the match against Poland, if Thanh Thuy could have played a little better, the opponent could have had a much more difficult time.

Not only the Chinese press, the best female athlete in Poland, Magdalena Stysiak, also admitted that her team had difficulties. She said: “The opening match of this tournament is always very complicated. We respect the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. They played well. But we must also admit that we played very badly in the first set. After that, we returned to our style.
Losing the first set against the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will be a valuable lesson for Poland throughout the tournament."
Magdalena Stysiak was the best player of the match when she scored 29 points (23 attacks, 6 successful blocks).
At 5pm today (August 25), the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will face Germany (ranked 11th in the world). This is another big challenge for coach Tuan Kiet and his team. In the opening match, Germany easily won 3-0 against Kenya.
