Level 12 storm is heading straight for North Central Vietnam

Early on the morning of August 24, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 4:00 a.m., the center of storm No. 5 was at about 17.6 degrees North latitude - 111.7 degrees East longitude, in the sea north of Hoang Sa archipelago, about 660km East Southeast of the coast of Nghe An province, about 640km East of the coast of Ha Tinh province.

The strongest wind near the storm's center is at level 12, gusting to level 15, moving west at a speed of about 20km/hour. Compared to the night of August 23, the storm's strength has increased by 1-2 levels.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that in the next 24-60 hours, the storm will move in a West-Northwest direction at a speed of about 20km/hour. Early tomorrow morning, August 25, the storm center will be in the southern part of the Gulf of Tonkin, about 230km from the coast of Nghe An province and about 210km east of the coast of Ha Tinh province. At this time, the storm center will operate at an intensity between level 12 and 13, gusting to level 15.

The onshore wind is getting stronger.

Early this morning, the Northwestern East Sea has strong winds of level 8-10, near the storm center level 11-13, gusting to level 15. Waves are 5-7m high, near the storm center 7-9m, the sea is very rough.

According to Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from noon and afternoon today, the sea area from Thanh Hoa to Hue will gradually increase in strength to level 6-8, then increase to level 9-10, near the storm center level 11-13, gusting to level 15. Waves are 4-6m high, near the storm center 7-9m.

At the same time, the northern area of ​​the Gulf of Tonkin has strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 9. The southern area has winds of level 8, gusting to level 10, waves 2-4m high, rough seas. The coastal area from Ninh Binh to northern Quang Tri has water levels rising 0.5-1.5m, with a risk of flooding in low-lying coastal areas, river mouths and islands.

According to meteorological experts, around noon to afternoon tomorrow, August 25, the eye of the storm will make landfall in Vietnam, with the focus of the storm being the North Central region. However, from tomorrow morning, strong winds and rain will begin to develop.

On land, from tonight, August 24, the Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri area will have strong winds of level 7-9, near the storm center will have winds of level 10-12, gusting to level 14-15. The coastal areas from Quang Ninh to Ninh Binh will have strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8.

Heavy rain covered

Vietnam's Meteorological Agency warns that from the night of August 24 to the end of August 26, the Northern Delta, South Phu Tho and the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue will have heavy rain of 100-150mm, with some places having over 250mm. Particularly, from Thanh Hoa to North Quang Tri, there will be rain of 200-400mm, locally over 700mm.

From August 25, Hanoi and Da Nang will have moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms. Ho Chi Minh City will have showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon. Central and Upper Laos from August 25 to 27 will also have heavy rain, commonly 100-250mm, locally over 500mm.
