New Apple Watch Ultra will use 3D printed components

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên15/07/2023

The second-generation Apple Watch Ultra is reportedly coming later this year, and the manufacturing process is said to take a different approach. Apple will turn to 3D printing for some of the mechanical parts in its wearable, and there will be a number of benefits.

Writing in his blog, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the new Apple Watch Ultra will 3D print some of its mechanical parts out of titanium. Kuo says that while 3D printed parts still require some back-end processes, they ultimately have two valuable benefits: improved production times and reduced costs.

A second version of the Watch Ultra could use 3D printed components.

Kuo also said that IPG Photonics is the exclusive supplier of laser parts for 3D printed mechanical parts, while Farsoon and BLT are the printer suppliers. If the arrangement is streamlined and goes according to plan, Apple could adopt more 3D printed parts in other products, reducing the production time and cost of large-scale production.

Apple suppliers would also benefit and more companies could be added to the list to help the tech giant get better prices.

Although 3D printed, aluminum and titanium are considered more durable materials than plastic. However, the process can also use a variety of materials, and Apple may have thought about this. The Apple Watch Ultra is expected to be officially announced later this year.
