To celebrate Vietnamese Women's Day October 20, the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington DC organized the "Ao Dai - Quintessence of Vietnamese culture" festival at R House - the beloved Vietnamese house in the US.

The event was warmly welcomed by Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung, wife of the US Assistant Secretary of State for Asia-Pacific, wives of ambassadors from Bahrain, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Oman, Thailand, Vietnam, Deputy Ambassadors of Myanmar and Vietnam, along with female officials and wives of ASEAN embassies and some diplomatic organizations in the US.

Nearly half of the approximately 100 guests attending the event wore the graceful ao dai, contributing to the success of the Vietnamese ao dai festival in the United States.

When the Vietnamese ladies walked up gracefully in colorful ao dai, holding the conical hats and gently swaying to the song "My Homeland Vietnam" , all the children of Vietnam felt moved, feeling like they were returning to their country, as stated in the opening speech of Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung.

The Ambassador highly appreciated the activities of the ASEAN Spouses Association in Washington DC as well as the initiative to organize this very meaningful event by the Embassy and the Association.

In particular, held during the month honoring Vietnamese women, the event helps to enhance exchanges, connect the ASEAN family and bring the Association's typical values to international friends and partners.

Ms. Tran Thi Bich Van, wife of Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung, shared that the ao dai is not simply a type of clothing, but also carries a philosophy of life, expressing the identity and soul of the Vietnamese people, and is the quintessence of Vietnamese culture.

She hopes to have many opportunities to introduce and bring the Ao Dai to friends in ASEAN, the US and other countries around the world.

Next, the auditorium lit up when a group of amateur "models" including the wives of the Ambassadors of Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan walked in wearing flowing silk ao dai. International friends were amazed by the beauty and grace of the wives.

An interesting point is that the ladies who modeled in this program all had a working term with their husbands in Hanoi, or had previously known about Vietnamese ao dai and all loved the ao dai.

The ladies believe that the ao dai not only enhances the beauty of Vietnamese women but also makes women of other countries more beautiful and attractive.

The Malaysian Ambassador's wife said about the dress she was wearing: "I love this outfit very much, I also really like the silk material because it is soft and comfortable...".

At the event, the booth introducing Vietnamese silk products was visited by most guests and they chose to buy for themselves and their families.

In addition, traditional Vietnamese dishes made the event truly a Vietnamese culinary feast with pho, spring rolls, shredded chicken, corn sticky rice, longan sweet soup, milk coffee...

A wife said that since her term of office in Hanoi ended, her family often goes to Vietnamese restaurants in the US to ease their longing for Vietnamese food.

Along with cuisine, the ao dai has been very successful in spreading the beauty of Vietnamese culture to many international friends.
