AI understands baby cries

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên12/01/2024

According to FreeThink , many parents worry about their babies' cries late at night, when they cannot tell if they are hungry, have a stomachache, or are restless? At CES 2024 (USA), an AI project from several universities in the US created the Cappella application that can analyze the meaning of a newborn's cry.

Cappella acts as a professional 'interpreter'. With one phone placed next to the baby's crib, the other is used by the parent. When the baby cries, the AI in the app analyzes the sound to identify needs such as hunger, sleepiness, discomfort or even pain. Notifications with suggestions are sent to the parent immediately.

Cappella's accuracy is touted to be up to 95%, even higher than that of experts, thanks to being trained on a huge database of cries that have been classified by doctors and nurses based on real-life contexts and signs.

Not only does Cappella decode crying, it also allows you to monitor your baby via video , record feeding and nappy changes. "This is all parents need, they won't have to install more apps anymore," said project founder Apolline Deroche.

The app is available on iOS and coming soon to Android, with a monthly subscription costing $10. Deroche also hopes to use AI to detect early signs of illness (such as respiratory problems) and behavioral disorders (autism) in children, leading to more timely and effective diagnoses.
