According to the program, VNPT will connect 10,000 businesses and households in the 8 largest cities and provinces in the country. In particular, Nokia will provide optical access nodes for VNPT's switchboard and optical modems to connect customers' homes.
VNPT will use ultra-broadband technology to connect 10,000 households and businesses in the eight largest cities and provinces in the country. |
In September 2021, the Ministry of Information and Communications announced a national digital transformation program with the goal of fiber optic internet infrastructure connecting 80% of households and 100% of communes by 2025. In 2022, VNPT led the market with 39.5% market share, while providing mobile and pay TV services.
VNPT will differentiate its services and maintain its position by switching to a 10Gb/s network infrastructure. This technology allows VNPT to provide customers with a variety of speed options without having to install new fiber optic cables.
Mr. Dang Anh Son, General Director of VNPT Network Infrastructure Corporation, said: "This project is the first step in the process towards providing high-end FTTx services, meeting the high demand for bandwidth as well as service quality of private and business customers with the latest generation XGS-PON solution. Following that, VNPT will cooperate with Nokia to deploy a network management system based on cloud computing platform for the XGS-PON system, while improving the quality of customer experience through digital transformation solutions."
Mr. Rubén Morón Flores, Head of Vietnam Market at Nokia also shared: "We are very proud to be selected by VNPT as the solution provider for the event that brings 10 Gb/s broadband to Vietnam for the first time. The solution uses multiple passive optical networks at multi-Gigabit speeds to achieve impressive flexibility and scale. Vietnam has many ambitious goals and we are happy to participate in contributing to the process of realizing those goals".
Currently, the fixed broadband Internet market in Vietnam is facing competition as the three network providers VNPT, Viettel, FPT compete to reduce prices. This makes service providers no longer profitable and potentially affects reinvestment.
Late last year, VNPT and Nokia signed a cooperation agreement on 5G wireless networks, smart port and smart airport solutions. Accordingly, the two sides agreed to share strategic vision and business opportunities from LTE/5G dedicated wireless networks and smart port and smart airport solutions.
New technologies are coming to benefit port and airport operators. Establish a joint working group to coordinate preparations for participating in other potential projects such as international airports.
With support from Nokia, VNPT has launched a trial 5G network in Hanoi with a 5G download speed of 1.2Gbps.
