Black Panther is now the fastest robot dog in the world

In a television program broadcast on July 6, the 0.63 meter tall, 38 kg four-legged robot broke the world sprint record for robot dogs, previously held by the WildCat model of Boston Dynamics (USA).

According to a video released by CCTV , the Black Panther robot reached a speed of 10.3 m/s in less than 10 seconds while running on a treadmill. For comparison, Usain Bolt holds the 100-meter world record with a time of 9.58 seconds. He has an average speed of about 10.44 m/s.

Unveiled in January this year, Black Panther is capable of taking strides up to five times per second, making it one of the fastest four-legged robots in the world.

The robot development project is a collaboration between Zhejiang University's Humanoid Robot Innovation Institute and Hangzhou-based startup Mirror Me.

In recent months, the team has upgraded the robot by fusing together three previously separate carbon fiber lower legs, improving stability and operating strength.

Currently, the Black Panther can surpass most humans in running speed, but is still inferior to the fastest animals on land such as cheetahs, ostriches or wildebeest.

The development team hopes that in the future, Black Panther can be applied in areas such as disaster rescue or logistics in complex terrain, such as moving through areas of rubble after an earthquake, where humans or traditional vehicles have difficulty accessing.
