According to Neowin , the on-track battles of the first game in the racing series The Crew are coming to the end of their lifecycle. Specifically, Ubisoft has confirmed that The Crew has been removed from many digital game stores and its online servers will be shut down after March 31, 2024.
The Crew will officially cease operations from March next year.
Ubisoft shared the company's decision in a blog post, saying: "We understand this may be disappointing for players who still enjoy the game, but it is necessary given the upcoming server infrastructure and licensing constraints. Discontinuing a game, and especially a first game, is not an easy thing for us to do. Our goal remains to provide the best action racing experience for players, and to achieve that, we are continuing to deliver new content for The Crew 2 and the recently launched The Crew: Motorfest ."
Depending on the digital store's refund policy, players may be eligible for a refund if they recently purchased The Crew .
The Crew was developed by Ubisoft Ivory Tower and released by Ubisoft in December 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. The game has attracted attention for bringing racing game fans an attractive open world.
Set in a miniature America and featuring RPG elements in a single-player campaign where the player must infiltrate criminal groups. Multiplayer mode supports up to 8 players with a variety of racing modes. The game also released two expansion packs after launch.
With great success, Ubisoft released a sequel, The Crew 2, in 2018. Earlier this year, the third and latest game, The Crew: Motorfest, was released, with an open-world setting on the Hawaiian Island of O'ahu.
