In addition to collecting people's opinions on merging Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City to name Ho Chi Minh City, District 5 is also collecting opinions on merging 10 existing wards into 3 wards. Specifically, wards 1, 2, 4 will be merged into Cho Quan ward, about 1.2 km2 wide, with a population of more than 63,000 people. Wards 5, 7, 9 will be merged into An Dong ward, about 1.3 km2 wide, with a population of more than 81,000 people.
Finally, wards 11, 12, 13, 14 were merged into Cho Lon ward, about 1.6 km2 wide , with a population of more than 85,000 people.
Previously, District 5 developed a plan to reorganize 10 wards into 2 wards, including An Dong ward and Dong Khanh ward (or Ben Ham Tu). However, the locality has now adjusted the merger plan to 3 wards and used the place name to name the new ward.
