VOV.VN - From September 21, General Secretary and President To Lam attended the Future Summit, the 79th United Nations General Assembly, and worked in the United States.
On the afternoon of September 21 (local time), the plane carrying General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation landed at JFKenedy International Airport to begin activities to attend the Future Summit, the 79th United Nations General Assembly, and work in the United States.
On the morning of September 22 (local time), the Future Summit solemnly opened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York with the participation of many high-ranking leaders of countries, international and regional organizations, and representatives of non-governmental organizations, scientists , finance and businesses. General Secretary and President To Lam led the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the conference.
As an invited speaker at the first plenary session of the conference, General Secretary and President To Lam said that human intelligence has helped change the world and human life, but humans are also the cause of many challenges such as climate change, epidemics, resource depletion or the production of weapons of mass destruction... Emphasizing that choices in the present will shape the future.
On the morning of September 22, during his working trip to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week in New York, General Secretary and President To Lam had a friendly meeting with a group of Vietnamese intellectuals of different generations living in Houston (Texas, USA).
The General Secretary and President hopes that Vietnamese intellectuals in the United States and around the world will unite and join forces to continue making contributions to the future development, towards a new era for the country.
Also on the morning of September 22 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam met with the Vatican's Prime Minister, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. The two leaders said that maintaining the exchange of high-level delegations and the Vietnam - Vatican Joint Working Group meeting mechanism plays an important role in promoting mutual respect and understanding. Vatican's Prime Minister, Cardinal Petro Parolin affirmed that the Permanent Representative of the Holy See is actively cooperating with Vietnam and said that Pope Francis hopes to soon visit Vietnam, contributing to promoting the connection between the Holy See and the Catholic Church in Vietnam, further strengthening the Vietnam - Vatican relationship.
On the afternoon of September 22 (local time), in New York, General Secretary and President To Lam had a meeting with Mr. Brendan Nelson, President of Boeing Global, the world's largest aviation corporation. General Secretary and President To Lam suggested that Boeing continue to closely coordinate with Vietnamese partners to complete and transfer aircraft purchase orders signed in the past, especially Boeing should soon research and invest in component manufacturing factories, build regional aircraft equipment and machinery maintenance centers associated with major airports in Vietnam.
On the afternoon of September 22 (local time) in New York City, General Secretary and President To Lam attended and spoke at a seminar with the theme "Strengthening Vietnam - US cooperation in developing the semiconductor industry and artificial intelligence". Acknowledging and appreciating the very enthusiastic statements, going straight to the issues of Vietnam - US cooperation opportunities in the field of semiconductor industry and artificial intelligence (AI), General Secretary and President To Lam stated that Vietnam is determined to develop the country quickly and sustainably based on science, technology, and innovation. The Party and State of Vietnam also identified 3 strategic breakthroughs for the country's socio-economic development by 2030: institutions, infrastructure, and human resource development associated with economic restructuring and growth model innovation; promoting development based on science, technology, innovation and cultural values of Vietnamese people.
On the evening of September 22 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam attended and delivered a speech at the event celebrating the first anniversary of the upgrade of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States. Attending the event were former US Secretary of State John Kerry, Senator Dan Sullivan, many high-ranking officials and former officials in the Government, along with many American friends and the Vietnamese community in the United States.
Looking forward to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations in 2025, General Secretary and President To Lam suggested that the two sides continue to strengthen close coordination to effectively implement the Vietnam-US Joint Statement in 2023, contributing more to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.
On the morning of September 23 (local time), speaking at Columbia University, the 5th oldest and most prestigious university in the United States and famous worldwide, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized: "We are living in a rapidly changing world. But for Vietnam, one thing remains unchanged: Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, we continue to consistently implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, being a friend, a reliable partner, an active and responsible member of the international community". General Secretary and President To Lam also affirmed that Vietnam will join hands with friends and partners to solve urgent global challenges such as climate change, food security, health security, water security, etc. and promote the building of a fair and equal international order, based on the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
On the afternoon of September 23 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York. The General Secretary and President suggested that the two sides continue to closely coordinate, effectively implement the results of visits, high-level agreements and the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2024-2028 period, continue to deepen the relationship, substantively and effectively in all fields, promote the potential and strengths of each country, especially in the fields of economy, trade, investment, security - defense, culture, tourism, aviation and people-to-people exchange...; believe that the two countries will soon achieve the goal of bringing bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion USD/year and increase to more than 30 billion USD by 2030, double that of 2023.
On the afternoon of September 23 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam had a meeting with members of the Vietnam Innovation Network and Vietnamese experts in the United States. Believing that this is a field that will create major breakthroughs, helping Vietnam not only strengthen its position in the international arena but also participate more effectively in the global science and technology market, the General Secretary and President suggested that the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States continue to promote its connecting role, expand the participation of new members and enhance cooperation between Vietnamese and international experts and intellectuals.
On the afternoon of September 23 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam attended a discussion with leading US businesses organized by the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), the US Chamber of Commerce (USCC) and the Business Council for Common Understanding (BCIU) in coordination with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States.
On the morning of September 24 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam received Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). At the meeting, the IMF Managing Director affirmed that Vietnam and ASEAN are bright spots of growth in the global economy, especially in difficult times when the world economy experiences shocks. The IMF Managing Director said that the resilience, adaptation and growth maintenance of the Vietnamese economy is based on two solid pillars that have been continuously strengthened over the past decades. These are a strong, increasingly complete institution and an approach that prioritizes growth while ensuring inclusiveness in macroeconomic policy making.

Continuing activities within the framework of his working trip to the United States, on the morning of September 25 local time, General Secretary and President To Lam received leaders of several major US corporations in the fields of energy, space satellites, and technology, including AES, Pacifico Energy, SpaceX, and Google. The General Secretary and President emphasized that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam are committed to creating all favorable conditions, in accordance with the provisions of law, for US investors to invest and do business effectively and sustainably in Vietnam. Receiving President of the World Bank (WB) Ajay Banga, General Secretary, President affirmed: Vietnam always prioritizes strengthening and strengthening relations with the WB, suggesting the two sides to accelerate the unification of the National Partnership Framework (CPF) between Vietnam and the WB, as a basis for cooperation orientation between the two sides in the coming time. On September 25, General Secretary, President To Lam had a meeting with US President Joe Biden. The General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the fact that President Biden at the opening session of the UN General Assembly shared with the world about the lesson of the United States and Vietnam in promoting the healing and building of post -war relations; President Biden affirmed that the United States supported a Vietnam "strong, independent, resilient and prosperous" and will continue to promote the partnership between the two countries on the basis of respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions of each other, so that the US -Vietnam relations continue to be the model for the healing and cooperation in the future.
