Fremantle and Singapore-based production company Beach House Pictures confirmed on December 5 that they are teaming up with Vietnam's Anh Teu Films to make the film Số đỏ ( Dumb Luck ), an adaptation of the famous 1936 satirical novel by writer Vũ Trọng Phụng.

Filmmaker Phan Gia Nhat Linh (who made Em va Trinh , Co gai den tu hom qua , Em la ba noi cua anh ) will write the script and direct this film adaptation. Famous singer Mono plays the main role - Xuan toc do.

The Hollywood Reporter reported: " The Red Number is set in Vietnam in the 1930s, a period marked by significant social transformations as the country experienced the final years of French colonial rule and the emergence of reform movements, coinciding with the growing influence of global consumer culture. The film follows the unlikely and hilarious adventures of Xuan Toc Do, an amoral vagabond, as he rises from poverty to the top of society and is revered as the brainchild of the country's Westernization movement."

Lucky Number is one of the most popular satirical novels, offering a harsh critique of the hypocrisy of colonial society. "I am very happy to bring this wonderful Vietnamese story to international audiences," said writer and director Nhat Linh.

Lucky Number is a co-production between Vietnam-Korea-Singapore. CJ CGV will release this film, however the release date has not been announced.
