Can Tran Thanh Trung was born in 1995, a former student of the Gifted High School (Ho Chi Minh City National University). In 2013, he won the Gold Medal at the International Math Olympiad in Colombia. He received a full scholarship to Duke University, one of the best schools in the United States. Decision from the heart In 2018, Dr. Trung graduated with honors in Mathematics here. He then continued to conquer higher levels of research. Immediately after successfully defending his doctoral thesis in Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology, USA, he returned to Vietnam.

The 29-year-old doctor surprised many people with this decision. Having a successful career and a fulfilling life in the US is the dream of many young people, but he does not think so. Abroad is a place to learn and accumulate knowledge and experience, while Vietnam is where Dr. Trung wants to return to live and contribute. "Returning to work in the country is a decision that comes from the heart." Talking about the reasons that motivated him to return, the young doctor said that directly contributing to the development of his homeland has great meaning in life. Dr. Trung realized that the field he is pursuing, Mathematics and Applications, has a lot of potential for development in Vietnam. Mathematical calculations and theories are the foundation for technological breakthroughs such as AI or blockchain. He said that our country has a tradition of loving Mathematics, liking research, and having many talented people who are eager to learn. Good seeds, if properly trained in both expertise and soft skills, and oriented to develop in line with their abilities and job opportunities, will certainly bear sweet fruit. The male doctor wants to accompany and support the next generations on that journey. "I returned to the country with the spirit of learning and starting a business, adapting to the situation" , according to the 9X doctor, changing to a completely different working environment is a good opportunity to improve knowledge and life skills. Since he was a student in the US, Trung has cherished the plan to return to contribute. That desire is always present in the heart of a patriotic son.

Dr. Can also revealed that the reason that urged him to return quickly was family meals with simple dishes imbued with national identity. Luckily for the young man, right after receiving his doctorate, he was accepted into the VNU350 program - a program to attract, retain and develop 350 outstanding young scientists, leading scientists working at Ho Chi Minh City National University. Dr. Can Tran Thanh Trung returned to teach and research at the University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City National University. He was assigned a topic and research funding in the field of encryption, security and Blockchain applications. With the support of Ho Chi Minh City National University, Trung realized the idea of ​​establishing a training center for high school students to help them access new knowledge and study at top schools in the world. Passionate about training and nurturing talent Dr. Trung shared that since he was in university, he has been passionate about training and guiding students and other students. For him, being able to pass on knowledge and experience to others is extremely meaningful. He has done this "work" in many different ways. Dr. Trung does not remember exactly how many students and graduate students he has trained and assisted in the field of Mathematics. He only remembers that the process of teaching others is also a way for him to learn, practice more, and even absorb many good things from others. Although he loves teaching, Trung admits that he is not suited to be a high school teacher. In the summer of 2016, Dr. Trung and some friends founded the PiMA Math group with the main activity of opening a summer camp, directly teaching and guiding students in Vietnam. Dr. Trung understands that students in Vietnam do not have many opportunities to study in an experiential and passionate way like in some countries around the world. He was overwhelmed when he first set foot in the US to study because of the modern facilities there.

"Thanks to the systematic courses in both theory and application, the opportunity to do group projects, and research experience with leading experts, I found my answer to the question of why I study Mathematics and have the confidence to pursue my passion until now" , Dr. Trung hopes that Vietnamese students can also experience similar things. With the PiMA Mathematics project, Dr. Trung hopes that the young generation of Vietnam can freely pursue their passion and develop their talents instead of studying for achievements. "Vietnamese students have qualities that are not inferior to their peers in the US or other countries. Some of them can even be considered geniuses in the field of Mathematics. If they are exposed to the application of Mathematics early on, thereby developing soft skills such as research, teamwork or participating in the academic community, ... they will maximize their talents" , Dr. Trung shared. After 8 years of perseverance with that passion, the PiMA summer camp founded by Dr. Trung and his colleagues has achieved many successes, becoming a place trusted by teachers and parents. Sharing about his future plans, Dr. Trung said he will continue to accompany the younger generation on the path to conquering their passion for Mathematics.
