The Cong - Viettel recruits 18-year-old Vietnamese-American player Lee Williams

After nearly 2 weeks of probation, The Cong - Viettel Club decided to sign a contract with Vietnamese-American player Lee Williams. The team officially introduced this new player on August 9 at its headquarters in Hoa Lac ( Hanoi ).

Lee Williams was born in 2007, has a British father and a Vietnamese mother. He is 1.9m tall and can play as a striker and attacking midfielder.

Before returning to Vietnam, Lee Williams played for Warrington FC in the National League North (England's 6th division). The highest level of Lee's career was the English League Cup with Stockport FC (2024-2025 season).

"At only 18 years old, Lee Williams has made a strong impression with his ball control ability, tactical thinking and potential to become an excellent attacking player in the future," informed The Cong - Viettel Club.

Head coach Velizar Popov of The Cong - Viettel affirmed: "I believe Williams has great potential to become a star in the V-League. At the age of 18, he has a lot of time to learn and develop."

Before signing Lee Williams, The Cong - Viettel recruited 3 overseas Vietnamese players including Kyle Colonna, Damian Vu Thanh An and Tomas Duong Thanh Tung. Of which, Duong Thanh Tung already has Vietnamese nationality.

Because only 2 overseas Vietnamese players are allowed to register according to V-League regulations, the army team will not be able to use Lee Williams immediately in phase 1. It is possible that Lee will be loaned out to gain more playing experience and quickly get used to the Vietnamese football environment.

The Cong - Viettel Club confirmed that Lee Williams is part of the team's comprehensive preparation strategy for the near future. This is also the 10th contract of the army team before the season, showing the ambition and determination to return to the V-League championship.
