The ceremony of displaying the national flag that used to be hung at Lung Cu flagpole was solemnly and emotionally held at Marie Curie School yard.

When the sacred flag appeared on the stage, in the hearts of every teacher, parent, and student of Marie Curie School, national pride and love for the country surged. Arms were placed on the left chest, facing the red flag with a yellow star, singing the National Anthem with emotion.

As soon as the national anthem ended, teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang and his students knelt down and kissed this special national flag.

Ms. Nguyen Boi Ngoc, mother of three students studying at the school, shared that she was surprised and proud to see the national flag that once flew in the northernmost part of the country right in the middle of the school where her children are studying.

"My family once took our children to Ha Giang and visited Lung Cu flagpole, where we saw the sacred national flag flying. Therefore, my children and I were very proud and touched when the school was given one of those flags," said Ms. Ngoc.

Trang Anh (class 4M), one of the students who knelt down with the principal to kiss the flag, emotionally shared: "This is the first time we have seen such a big national flag. When we kissed the flag, we were both nervous and deeply moved...".

Witnessing the flag-raising ceremony, everyone understood that it was the love and respect for the Fatherland that the principal and the school wanted to convey to all teachers, parents and students. At the same time, they were proud that their school received the sacred flag that had been bathed in the sun and wind of the border region; the flag that, together with the officers and soldiers of Lung Cu Border Post, had protected the sky and borders of the Fatherland.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang said: "The teachers and students of Marie Curie School were deeply moved to receive the sacred national flag, a heartfelt gift from the people of Meo Vac District, on the border of the Fatherland. We are willing to do our best to help the people of Meo Vac District develop day by day."

The national flag always flies on Lung Cu flagpole.

Over the years, Marie Curie School has carried out many particularly meaningful community projects in Meo Vac District. Since 2021, in response to the Prime Minister's Project to Plant One Billion Trees in the 2021-2025 period, Marie Curie School launched the project "Ten Thousand Trees for Meo Vac"; to date, more than 20,000 cypress trees have been planted on an area of 13 hectares of land in Khau Vai Commune. The total cost of implementing phase 1 is 526.5 million VND.

Teachers and students of Marie Curie School have had many meaningful projects for teachers and students of Meo Vac District.

In the 2022-2023 school year, when implementing the new general education program, English will become a compulsory subject from grade 3, but nearly 20 primary schools in Meo Vac district only have one teacher for this subject. Although there is a recruitment mechanism, there is no recruitment source, so schools in Meo Vac are "restless" as the new school year approaches.

Marie Curie School decided to "save the situation" by recruiting 20 teachers under contract to carry out a project to teach English (online) to 3rd grade students of Meo Vac District (total cost of about more than 1.7 billion VND/school year).

The project ended its first school year with results that exceeded expectations. Teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang decided to extend this project so that he could continue to help Meo Vac teach English to the 3rd grade students in 4th and 5th grade when they graduate from primary school (school year 2024 - 2024). Currently, teacher Khang is still nurturing some bigger, more fundamental plans to help Meo Vac District solve the root cause of the difficulty in the English teaching staff.

In addition, teachers and students of Marie Curie School have donated books, stories, bought textbooks, school supplies, clothes, etc. to students of schools in need in Meo Vac District many times.

Vietnam has 6 extreme points, of which 4 are on land and 2 are at sea. Of the 4 on land points, the northernmost point (Lung Cu, Ha Giang) and the westernmost point (A Pa Chai, Dien Bien) are located on land. The southernmost point (Dat Mui, Ca Mau) and the easternmost point (Mui Doi, Khanh Hoa) are close to the sea.

Lung Cu flagpole is located at the top of Lung Cu, 1,470 m above sea level; it was first built during the reign of Ly Thuong Kiet, originally made of sa moc trees, affirming the sovereignty of Vietnam.

The flagpole was rebuilt in 1887, during the French colonial period. In 1992, 2000 and especially in 2002, the flagpole was restored and rebuilt many times, with larger size and scale.

Currently, the flagpole is 20 m high, the base of the pole has 6 reliefs depicting the surface of Dong Son bronze drums. The top of the pole is a 9 m high flagpole, hanging the Vietnamese national flag 9 m long, 6 m wide, with a total area of 54 m 2 , symbolizing the 54 ethnic groups living together in Vietnam.

Currently, at Lung Cu Border Post, there is a station dedicated to protecting the flag on Lung Cu flagpole; every week or at most 10 days, the flag must be replaced due to the strong wind on Lung Cu peak...
