Tips for circling multiple choice questions in English for high school graduation exam 2024

English is one of the multiple-choice subjects in the 2024 high school graduation exam. In order to help candidates review and achieve the best results, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen, an English teacher in Hanoi, has provided useful advice. Especially tips for effectively circling multiple-choice questions in the 2024 high school graduation exam in English to achieve high scores.

Teacher Trung Nguyen said: "Thus, there is only about 1 week left until students will enter their most important exam - the 2024 high school graduation exam - the exam marking the end of the 12-year journey of high school and preparing to enter the university gate.

English has always been a subject with a relatively low score in the high school graduation exam in previous years. Perhaps partly because many students are not confident, hesitant, afraid or do not have an effective review and test-taking strategy for this subject. The 2024 high school graduation exam will be the last exam to be organized in the old format and according to the 2006 general education program. This is also an advantage for students who are used to studying in this format throughout the review process. For English, the test content is no different from previous years . In particular, it will be quite close to the structure of the sample exam that the Ministry of Education and Training announced in March 2024 .

Suggested multiple choice questions for the 2024 High School Graduation English Exam

The 2024 high school graduation English exam will still be held with 100% multiple choice questions, 50 questions and 60 minutes to complete. The question types will probably still be sentence completion, synonyms - antonyms, pronunciation - stress, English communication, paragraph completion, reading comprehension, finding mistakes and rewriting sentences.

The knowledge appearing in the exam will certainly be the grammar and vocabulary knowledge that you have learned in the high school English program, especially the 12th grade English program. Therefore, if you have a firm grasp of the knowledge according to the textbook program distribution, certainly getting a good score is not a difficult problem.

Specifically, with grammar knowledge, students need to systematize knowledge about word classes (nouns - adjectives - adverbs), prepositions, pronouns, verbs (verb tenses - passive sentences - gerunds), modal verbs, conjunctions, conditional sentences, relative clauses, comparison of adjectives and adverbs. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to knowledge related to indirect and direct sentences. With vocabulary, students need to re-read the readings learned in the 12th grade curriculum to consolidate and master the important vocabulary they have learned.

However, to achieve high scores, students also need to develop test-taking skills to be able to handle different types of questions in the exam such as synonyms - antonyms, paragraph completion, or reading comprehension.

For example, with the type of question that requires choosing the correct answer to complete a paragraph, if you have good test-taking skills, you can see that the test will include 4 types of questions: relative pronoun questions, quantifier questions, conjunctive adverb questions and vocabulary questions. With the relative pronoun question, the test will only require us to choose the relative pronouns "who, which, whom, that", not "where, when, whose, how, why, WH-ever". Therefore, when encountering this question in the "punching a paragraph" section, we only pay attention to the answers with "who, which, that, whom". At this point, choosing the correct answer will become much simpler.

Excerpt from the 2024 illustration as follows:

"Air travel to distant places results in huge amounts of carbon emissions (28) _____ contribute to global warming."

Question 28: A. where B. when C. which D. who

We can immediately eliminate A and B and choose C because the word right before the "____" is a noun.

Or another example with the type of error finding questions. We will see that 3 error finding questions will usually have one question with a wrong personal pronoun, one question with a wrong verb tense, and one question with a wrong meaning. If we do it a lot, we can easily choose the right answer for these so-called difficult questions.

When you see an answer with a personal pronoun, you can circle that answer. When you see an answer with a verb and the time appears in the sentence, circle the verb answer because those are incorrect answers.

Illustrative excerpt:

Question 45: All office workers are required to wear her name tags in the workplace .

A. office B. required C. her D. workplace

Select C.

Question 46: Many doctors in our hospital volunteer to help people in remote areas last year.

A. Many B. our C. volunteer D. areas

Select C.

High school graduation exams are always general, meaning there will always be questions to "prevent paralysis", these questions are very easy. However, many students are subjective and make mistakes with such questions, which is really regrettable. Therefore, when doing the test, you should do it carefully, and always remember the "principle of caution" when doing the test. That is, do not underestimate easy questions, do not underestimate difficult questions (because whether easy or difficult, the score is the same), only circle the answer when you are sure that it is the correct answer (for questions that can be done well).

There is only a little time left from today until the exam day, during this time you should not review the knowledge you have learned throughout the past school year. Instead, collect exam questions from previous years, as well as reference exams and take those exams seriously. Then, evaluate the results and draw your own experiences.

Another thing is to always prepare yourself physically and mentally, avoid eating strange foods before the exam to prevent bad situations. In addition, you need to understand the exam regulations to avoid regrettable violations.

Wish you confidence and high results!
