The "Compassionate Tet" movement is inherited from the "Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims" movement launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society. The movement aims to mobilize and widely connect the participation and contributions of the business community, philanthropists, and religious organizations to care for the poor, the elderly, and homeless children with loving gifts on the occasion of the traditional Tet holiday of the nation.

In addition, the Thoi Lai District Red Cross Society also organized the service of 1,000 free meals; examined and provided medicine to more than 500 poor and sick people in the district. Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuc, Head of the District Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thoi Lai District, said: During the 2024 Lunar New Year, the district supported 7,610 meritorious people and poor households with over 7.8 billion VND; socialized support for near-poor households, ethnic households, the elderly... with over 6,000 gifts, worth over 3.1 billion VND, ensuring that every family and every person has a happy New Year.

Previously, on February 1, at the Can Tho City Labor Federation Cultural House, the program "Spring of the Year of the Dragon 2024 Charity Tet" with the theme "Zero-VND Tet Market - Warming the Spring" with 350 gifts, each worth 1 million VND, including lucky money envelopes of 500,000 VND, 10 kg of rice, bags of necessities, vegetables and fruits... was handed to families in difficult circumstances. In addition, "Zero-VND Tet Market - Warming the Spring" also has 10 booths providing free services such as: Giving calligraphy, health consultation, free haircuts... with a total value of more than 300 million VND. Of which, Can Tho Buddhist Temple supported 300 gifts and 1 Red Cross house, with a total value of 140 million VND.

This is also the third market with a scale of 1,000 gifts, organized by the Red Cross Society at Vinh Thanh market, Phong Dien district and in the center of Can Tho city. On this occasion, the People's Committee of Can Tho city also awarded certificates of merit to units and individuals who have made many contributions to the city's social security work.
