At the dialogue conference between tourism businesses and the Ho Chi Minh City government on the afternoon of July 18, Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said that in the first 6 months of the year, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed nearly 5 million international visitors and 30 million domestic visitors, with total revenue of more than 130,000 billion VND. This result reflects the flexibility, creativity and quick adaptation of the tourism business community.
Figures from the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ) also show that in the first 6 months of this year, Vietnam welcomed 10.7 million international visitors, an increase of 20.7% over the same period, the highest in many years.

With the hot tourism industry, many international corporations are stepping up investment in Vietnam tourism. In particular, Wink Hotels, a brand of the Indochina Kajima joint venture (between Indochina Capital and Kajima Corporation - Japan), has just opened its 6th hotel in Hai Phong . Mr. Peter Ryder, Executive Chairman of Indochina Capital, assessed Hai Phong as a dynamic city, with strong investment in infrastructure such as Cat Bi airport and deep-water seaport. This creates momentum to attract tourists and investors to Wink Hotel and Core5 Hai Phong Industrial Park.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vivek Bhalla, Managing Director of Southeast Asia & Korea of IHG Hotels & Resorts, said that the group is deploying 22 new hotels in Vietnam, bringing the total to 42. IHG expects Vietnam to welcome 23 million international visitors this year, surpassing the pre-pandemic record of 18 million. This will help the occupancy rate of the entire IHG system increase by 13.2% and room revenue increase by 16.5% compared to the same period last year. In particular, visitors from China increased by 47% in the leisure tourism segment and increased by 10% in the long-term accommodation segment.
In addition, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) tourism also recorded positive prospects, with double-digit growth from regional markets, the Americas and Australia. Flight routes connecting Europe are opening up new opportunities for the industry.
Dr. Vo Tri Thanh commented that tourism is a prominent economic growth driver in the first half of the year. Attracting international visitors has stimulated consumption. If visa policies continue to be relaxed, Vietnam will welcome more tourists in the coming time.
