On the morning of December 22, the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Boat Racing Championship and water sports activities in response to the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" opened at the Thu Ngu Flagpole Park (District 1).
Leaders of the Vietnam Sailing Federation and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City presented flowers to the delegations participating in the tournament.
The 2024 Ho Chi Minh City Open Traditional Boat Racing Championship attracted more than 600 athletes from 22 delegations, from Sports Centers, social organizations, armed forces, and businesses in the city and provinces: An Giang, Binh Thuan, Da Nang, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Quang Binh .

Boat of 20 male and female rowers starts
Athletes compete in 8 events at a distance of 1,000m, divided into 3 categories A, B, C, including: 10-rower men's boat, 20-rower men's boat, 20-rower mixed men's and women's boat.
The tournament is an annual sporting event to promote the traditional boat racing movement in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition, the tournament also creates opportunities for units and provinces to compete, exchange, improve health, and at the same time preserve and promote the nation's cultural and sporting traditions through boat racing.

Within the framework of the boat race, Ho Chi Minh City residents can also enjoy water sports performances such as: Sailing performance, jet-skiing performance, windsurfing, fly-boarding and paragliding performance... with unique and special techniques from professional athletes performed on the Saigon River.

Through the tournament and performance activities, the Organizing Committee hopes to promote and raise public awareness in protecting the river environment, creating an open natural landscape so that Ho Chi Minh City can be worthy of being an ecological - smart city, aiming to develop sports tourism .
