In Vietnam, part 1 of the work has attracted many generations of readers. After its release, part 2, titled Totto-chan at the Window: The Next Stories (published by Nha Nam and the Writers Association Publishing House, translated by Truong Thuy Lan), quickly sold out 3,000 copies in just 3 days.

Part 1 of the work tells the story of Totto-chan in her elementary school days at Tomoe School. Part 2 continues that process, starting from the bombing of Tokyo during the Pacific War until the author entered the music academy, got involved with NHK, and from there became a shining star of the Japanese art world in many roles, from stage actor, film actor to MC, voice actor... Through that, author Kuroyanagi sent many valuable messages about the power of will, innocence and patience to never give up.

In particular, the book devotes much of its space to writing truthfully about the difficult days of Japan during the war, especially its impact on children. With a humorous, sometimes mischievous tone, the pain and wounds gradually fade away alongside the noble Japanese people who are specially portrayed.
