Pursuing the mission of “Technology for People, Kindness for the World”, OPPO will continue to invest in AI development and application, work closely with partners around the world to introduce more complete products and services to users, and create a more open and advanced global technology ecosystem.
AI has long been an important R&D area for OPPO, and the company is gradually putting AI at the core of its long-term development strategy. OPPO has established the OPPO AI Center and released the OPPO AI Smartphone Technical Paper, marking the era of transformation from Smartphone to AI Smartphone.
As of December 31, 2023, OPPO has filed more than 3,160 global AI-related patents. Based on years of technical experience in AI, OPPO recently released the AI Smartphone Technical Paper, providing a comprehensive analysis and vision of future trends and key applications in AI.
Based on the research and accumulated knowledge of large-scale models and generative AI, OPPO identifies the following four key characteristics of AI smartphones: AI smartphones must efficiently utilize computational resources to meet the processing needs of generative AI in the AI era; AI smartphones need to be equipped with sensors to perceive the real world, understand complex information of users and the surrounding environment; AI smartphones also need to possess strong self-learning capabilities; AI smartphones will be capable of creating multi-modal content, providing users with continuous inspiration and knowledge support.
With the above four outstanding features, the birth of AI Smartphone will revolutionize the mobile industry. Various AI services will be integrated into smart devices, creating an ecosystem that provides more diversified and personalized services. OPPO will provide AI features as well as development platforms to support this brand new ecosystem. In the future, OPPO will integrate comprehensive AI features into more OPPO products in the global market, including the next generation of Reno series, helping more users experience a smart and convenient lifestyle powered by AI.
To contribute to this ecosystem, OPPO’s efforts in the field of AI go beyond self-development and innovation, and go further to collaborate with many global partners in various fields. At this year’s MWC, OPPO joined hands with AlpsenTek, a vision motion sensor startup, and Qualcomm to showcase the results of the three parties’ cooperation, pioneering the use of Hybrid Vision Sensing technology integrated with a new AI Motion algorithm.
Developed under the guidance of OPPO, the AI Motion algorithm can enhance and interpolate high-frame-rate images for fast-focus cameras, based on the combination of traditional RGB image data and motion data from vision sensors. With this algorithm, smartphones will have more image enhancement solutions, allowing for 960fps slow-motion video recording at 4K resolution, enhancing dynamic range and resolution. The integration of this technology opens up exciting possibilities for photography and video recording, enhancing the potential for content creation.
Visitors to the Qualcomm booth at MWC experienced the impressive AI object removal effects as well as the powerful photography performance of the OPPO Find X7 Ultra. At the same time, at the MediaTek booth, OPPO also shared the application of this feature on the OPPO Find X7 device.
OPPO and Microsoft will also work closely on AI technology to enhance user experiences across devices. In the near future, through Microsoft's Link to Windows feature and a new software add-on, OPPO users will be able to use the Copilot AI assistant to create content, translate text messages, and search for addresses on their smartphones via a connected PC.
Mr. Pete Lau, Product Director of OPPO shared: "After feature phones and smartphones, AI smartphones will be the next generation representing the third major transformation in the mobile phone industry. In the era of AI smartphones, both the mobile phone industry and user experience will witness revolutionary changes. OPPO is committed to contributing to and promoting this transformation...".
