(Dan Tri) - The 15th National Assembly unanimously elected Mr. Le Minh Tri to hold the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, replacing Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh. Previously, Mr. Tri had more than 8 years as Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy.
438/438 National Assembly deputies (91.06% of the total number of National Assembly deputies) present voted to pass the Resolution to elect Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court for Mr. Le Minh Tri, at the 8th extraordinary session of the National Assembly on the afternoon of August 26. Immediately after being elected, the new Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Le Minh Tri performed the oath-taking ceremony before the National Assembly, according to the provisions of the Constitution. "Under the sacred red flag with yellow star of the Fatherland, before the National Assembly and the people and voters nationwide, I - Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court swear: Absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, to the People, to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, striving to fulfill well the tasks assigned by the Party, the State and the People", Mr. Le Minh Tri swore. Mr. Le Minh Tri was born in 1960, from Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City. He has a Bachelor's degree in People's Security and a Bachelor's degree in Law. Mr. Tri is a member of the Party Central Committee, terms XII and XIII; Member of the 13th Party Central Committee Secretariat (from August 2024) and National Assembly delegate of the 14th and 15th terms.

Mr. Le Minh Tri started his career in the police force. After graduating from the People's Security University (now the People's Security Academy), Mr. Tri was Deputy Team Leader, Deputy Head of Security Staff, Ho Chi Minh City Police, then Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs (now the Ministry of Public Security). In mid-1992, he was a seconded officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of Security, Secretary of the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. After that, he successively held many local positions such as: Deputy Chief of Office of the People's Council and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of District 11, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of District 1, before becoming Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City in early 2010. After 3 years as Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Tri was assigned by the Secretariat to hold the position of Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee in April 2013 and held this position for 3 years, before being elected Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy in April 2016, at the 11th session of the 13th National Assembly. The People's Court is the adjudicating agency, exercising judicial power. According to the provisions of the Law on Organization of the People's Court, the Supreme People's Court is the highest adjudicating agency of Vietnam. The Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court is elected, dismissed, and removed by the National Assembly at the proposal of the President. The term of office of the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court follows the term of office of the National Assembly. The Law on Organization of the People's Court stipulates that the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court is responsible for organizing the adjudicating work of the Supreme People's Court; responsible for organizing the implementation of the principle that judges and jurors are independent and only obey the law. The Chief Justice is also the chair of the meeting of the Supreme People's Court's Judicial Council; has the right to appeal according to the procedures of cassation and retrial of court judgments and decisions that have come into legal effect according to the provisions of law; submit to the President proposals on cases where convicted persons request clemency of the death penalty. This is also the person who has the right to submit to the National Assembly for approval the proposal to appoint, dismiss, or remove judges of the Supreme People's Court; submit to the President the appointment, dismissal, or removal of Deputy Chief Justices of the Supreme People's Court, the appointment, dismissal, or removal of judges of the People's Court....
