She was a famous general who led the army of La Nam to establish the Van Xuan country.
The person mentioned is Duong Khoan Khoang (?-546), from Bao Van village, Ho Ky region (present-day Vinh Phuc province).
Legend has it that her mother, Nguyen Thi Hang, dreamed one night of heavy rain and strong wind that a large dragon covered her body. She then became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter whose body had snake-like markings, so she was named Khoan Khoang.
Growing up, Khoan Khoang was a brave and strong-willed person, so everyone respected her. She stood up and gathered the young men in the village to fight against the Luong family. That was also the first time she became a leader.
By the end of 541, Ly Bi raised the flag of uprising, many heroes came to join. Among Ly Bi's strong army were many famous names such as Pham Luong, Trieu Quang Phuc, Trieu Tuc... Khoan Khoang led a group of young men from Bao Van village to join and became Ly Bi's most prominent female general.

In 544, after proclaiming himself king, Ly Nam De (Ly Bi) bestowed titles on officials and assigned Khoan Khoang to guard the northern border, with the camp located in Ho Ky village, her hometown.
A year later, the Liang army invaded our country and fought with the king's army. Unsure of victory, Ly Nam De ordered his army to retreat to the To Lich river mouth and build a rampart to fight the enemy. Later, he retreated to defend Gia Ninh citadel (Viet Tri). At the end of February 546, the king fled to Khuat Lao to concentrate his forces.
At that time, Khoan Khoang and his army fought bravely in Binh Xuyen and Yen Lac. They had consecutive battles that made the Northern invaders terrified.
When Gia Ninh citadel fell, King Ly Nam De went to Khuat Lao to gather forces. Female general Duong Khoan Khoang and her army continued to fight the enemy, fighting bravely for two years (545-546), until she was seriously injured and died in the battle at Yen Lac.
After her death, people in many places built temples to commemorate her. Later dynasties posthumously honored her as the Second Lady Khoan Khoang Dai Vuong with a beautiful and spiritual appearance.
