"Around midnight today, on my way to pick up the goods, I received a text message from my brother, saying that a relative in the mini apartment building was on fire, so I immediately rushed to the scene. When I arrived, I saw toxic smoke and many people coming and going," said Mr. Van.

According to Mr. Van, when he entered the building, he used a hammer he had picked up earlier to smash the door and saved his family, then saved some other people on the same floor. He also saved a girl of about 10 years old and a family of 5 who were trapped.

"I took slippers and wet towels to give to the victim's family and led them to safety. When I went down the stairs, I tripped over a body but luckily I was able to stay calm and get everyone out," Van recalled.

Thinking back to the moment he risked his life to rush into the fire, Mr. Van said that when he heard cries for help from inside, he quickly climbed the hot stairs and took the victims out one by one. "Now, if I encounter a similar situation, I will still go in to save people," Mr. Van affirmed.

In addition to Mr. Van and the volunteers of the FAS Angel Rescue Team, dozens of people on Khuong Ha Street also stayed up all night to bring water, bread, and fruit to the fire police force.

On September 13, people in Khuong Dinh Ward donated food, drinks and arranged accommodation to help the families of the victims of the fire.
