In early 2015, Mr. Tung decided to turn to fine arts, starting from zero. With the desire to reduce waste and protect the environment, he took advantage of cans that were often thrown away to create vivid paintings.

"The initial materials I chose were plastic bottles and cans at home to create art. After a period of research, I realized that aluminum cans are durable and beautiful, so I chose to make aluminum paintings," he said.
At first, when using a razor blade to cut the cans to shape them, Mr. Tung often cut his hands. After a few months of perseverance, he found the right tool: a surgical knife used in medicine. By 2022, he focused entirely on researching and developing products from cans and registering copyrights.
"I have been researching this genre for about 10 years, but started developing it in the last 3 years. This is a new genre, the materials are picky about the users, so it took a lot of time to develop," he said.
To create a complete product, it must go through 4 stages. The first is drawing on aluminum, carefully calculating so that when cutting, the pieces can be assembled into a perfect work. The second step is embossing, helping to create depth for the painting. The third step is cutting, this is the most difficult stage because he often cuts his hands. The last step is gluing, but not like the usual way of gluing paper.
According to Mr. Tung, because the work only has one color of shiny white aluminum can, the bending technique is considered the soul, helping the image become vivid. Just a small mistake, technical error or a wrong cut will have to be redone from the beginning.
To add more color to aluminum paintings, from 2023 to now, Mr. Tung has been researching and using Bodhi leaves to make paintings. The theme of his aluminum paintings is imbued with Vietnamese style, always looking towards the homeland, the Fatherland, the countryside landscape, cultural identity, feng shui calligraphy, religion...

Each piece of can after being carefully processed will be arranged into soulful images such as flowers, birds, animals, countryside landscapes. It is worth mentioning that these products not only attract attention because of their aesthetics, but also carry a strong message about environmental protection awareness. With a different way of making paintings, Mr. Tung takes care of each work to make it as realistic, soulful, delicate and detailed as possible.
Currently, he sells aluminum paintings for several hundred thousand to tens of millions of dong each. The advantage of this type of painting is its high durability and ease of preservation. Depending on the size and theme, each painting can take several days, or even nearly a month to complete.
"This is a special type of painting, it takes a lot of time to complete and the selling price can be higher than other materials. If you do this job to make money, it may not be suitable for many people, because sometimes it takes a whole month to make a painting. I do it mainly because of my passion and the desire to spread the message of environmental protection," he shared.
Mr. Tung is willing to teach his craft of making paintings from cans to those who share his passion so that he can develop this genre of paintings with him. In the future, he hopes to introduce this genre of paintings to foreign markets.
