After the success of the tournament in 2024, when Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) coordinated with District 5 People's Committee and Ho Chi Minh City Lion - Lion - Dragon Federation to organize for the first time, the District 5 International Lion - Lion - Dragon Open Cup Cho Lon - HTV 2025 continues to be organized on a large scale, gathering 45 Lion - Lion - Dragon troupes nationwide to register to participate. This year's tournament takes place in the atmosphere of celebrating the Spring of At Ty 2025, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), promising to bring many interesting things, high professional quality, expanding international exchanges with many notable new points.

The theme of this year's competition is "A Country Full of Joy". Accordingly, the competitions will combine content to spread love for the homeland, national pride, the development and innovation of Ho Chi Minh City with digital transformation, 4.0 technology, metro serving the people, entering a new era of the nation...

Notably, for the first time, the tournament has the participation of 3 famous international Lion Dance troupes from Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. In addition, this is also the first time the tournament has organized a qualifying round to select from 45 teams registered nationwide, finding the 20 strongest teams to compete in the final round of the Lion Dance in Mai Hoa Thung.

The qualifying round took place on December 15 and 16, 2024. For the first time, a Lion Dance competition had a final ranking night to select the champion team, in order to increase the competitiveness between the groups and attract audiences. The competition took place over 4 days: from January 9 to January 12, 2025 at the District 5 Cultural and Sports Center. Of which, 1 day was for the traditional dragon dance competition, the remaining 3 days were for the Lion Dance competition on the Mai Hoa Thung. HTV will broadcast live all 4 days of the competition.

The organizers hope that the tournament will continue to be a place of special competition, showcasing the most quintessential and beautiful techniques of the Lion Dance art form. This is to serve the people of Ho Chi Minh City and television audiences nationwide, contributing to spreading the attractive cultural and sports tourism products of District 5 in particular and Ho Chi Minh City in general, thereby promoting and preserving the cultural identity of Vietnam.
