The final round of the 49th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run – For Peace 2024 will take place from 7:30 a.m. on September 29 at the Ba Kieu Temple flower garden and around Hoan Kiem Lake. This year’s race will have the participation of 1,000 athletes, including more than 200 foreign athletes from embassies and international organizations located in Hanoi.
Athletes will compete in 12 amateur and advanced events, competing for 12 sets of medals. The amateur events will be held at distances of 1,750 m, 3,500 m, 5,250 m for men and women. The advanced events will be held at distances of 5,250 m for women and 8,750 m for men. The organizing committee will award individual prizes to male and female athletes ranked from 1 to 5, and team prizes from 1 to 3 in each category. The total prize value is more than 70 million VND.
The race held a press conference on September 23.
Mr. Pham Xuan Tai - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports added that this is a traditional tournament, so it attracts a large number of professional athletes. Many professional athletics teams from Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh... all sent representatives to participate.
Notably, famous athletes such as the Vietnamese track and field record holder Nguyen Thi Oanh will compete in the Bac Giang team. In addition, Tran Van Dang (Hanoi), Nguyen Trung Cuong (Ha Tinh), Trinh Quoc Luong (Army) will be present. Besides, the tournament also has many talented young athletes such as Nguyen Thu Ha (Nam Dinh), Han Thi Bich Thu, Duong Minh Hung (Army), Tran Minh Van (Thai Nguyen), Bui Thu Ha (Thanh Hoa) competing.
Nguyen Thi Oanh will also participate in the race.
The 49th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace 2024 is coordinated and co-organized by Hanoi Moi Newspaper and Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Previously, the launching ceremony was held on March 24 at Ba Kieu Temple flower garden and around Hoan Kiem Lake, combined with the Olympic Run Day for the health of all people. The combination of the two events has contributed to creating a vibrant atmosphere of physical training and sports in wards, communes and towns across the city.
Notably, with special attention and direction from the city to the grassroots, up to now, most districts, towns and cities have organized grassroots running tests. The number of participants in the test runs exceeded the targets set by the districts, towns and cities. The quality of the competition has also been significantly improved.
Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper Mai Thi Kim Thoa shared: “The 49th Running Tournament is a sporting event of great socio-political significance held annually. This is also one of the key sporting activities of Hanoi, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital and the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a City for Peace”.
