The Prime Minister has dismissed Mr. Vu Hong Nam, former Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, due to very serious violations and shortcomings in his work.
According to the Prime Minister's decision dated June 8, the disciplinary period for Mr. Nam is from December 30, 2022.
On December 22, 2022, Mr. Vu Hong Nam was prosecuted and temporarily detained by the Ministry of Public Security's Security Investigation Agency for the crime of Accepting bribes. A week later, the Secretariat assessed that Mr. Nam had degraded in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle; accepted bribes; violated the principle of democratic centralism, Party regulations, and State laws; violated regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example.
Mr. Vu Hong Nam's violations "caused very serious consequences, negative public opinion, and social outrage; negatively affecting the reputation of the Party organization and the Foreign Affairs sector." Therefore, Mr. Vu Hong Nam was expelled from the Party.
Mr. Nam, 60 years old, has 34 years of experience in foreign affairs, was an Assistant Minister and Chief of Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.

The case of Bribery, Receiving Bribes, Bribery Brokerage, Fraudulent Appropriation of Property when conducting rescue flights during the Covid-19 pandemic was determined to have occurred at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transport, Government Office, Hanoi People's Committee and related units.
Over the past year, 51 people have been prosecuted. Among the group being investigated for bribery are Mr. Nguyen Quang Linh (Assistant to the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister); Mr. To Anh Dung (former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs), Mr. Vu Hong Nam; Mr. Tran Viet Thai (former Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia), Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Lan (former Director of the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and many ambassadors and diplomatic officials working in Japan, Malaysia, Russia, and Angola.
Mr. Chu Xuan Dung, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee and Tran Van Tan, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Province are also being investigated for the crime of accepting bribes. The investigating agency has frozen, seized and received money to compensate for the consequences of the case, which is 80 billion VND.
