On the morning of June 28, at the Go Vap High School exam site (Go Vap District), candidate Nguyen The Tu (born in 1976) attracted all eyes as the oldest candidate. Currently, Mr. Tu is working as a driver to pick up and drop off students in Thu Duc City. With the dream of having a university degree, he registered to take the literature and social science exams with the goal of entering Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture.
According to Mr. Tu, he had dreamed of going to university for a long time, but when he was young, he had many worries and a difficult family life, so he put it on hold. Now that everything has stabilized, he decided to study and take the exam with his children to motivate them.
Mr. Tu said that the motivation to take the exam was because he had a very strong "rear" - his family and two very beautiful children who supported him to the fullest in terms of studying. "Every day, my two children and I study very happily. My house is like a small school, very exciting," Mr. Tu confided.
Mr. Tu shared: "Going to school now has changed a lot compared to how I used to be. In the past, I learned a lot by writing, but now students learn through the internet, so I have to start from scratch, so studying is very difficult. But I still have to try to overcome it. I am taking the exam here to both study for myself and to be a "role model" for my two children."
Taking the exam at the age of U.50, many candidates mistakenly thought Mr. Tu was a supervisor until they entered the exam room.
In this year's exam, Mr. Tu chose literature and a combination of social sciences (history, geography, civics) to get the score for admission to the University of Culture. Commenting on yesterday's literature exam, he said that the exam was quite suitable for him and candidates can easily get high scores if they study thoroughly.
After taking the literature test yesterday, Mr. Tu said that this year's exam was quite suitable for his ability. "If the candidates really invest in their education, they will definitely get a score of 7-8 or higher. Those who have a little talent for literature will get the maximum score, the possibility of getting a score of 10 will be very high," said Mr. Tu.
Mr. Tu's goal is to study museum at Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture. "The subjects in group C related to culture belong to the museum and library majors. Those majors are really important in relation to history. I chose group C because it suits my abilities. I also have a little talent for history and issues related to the history of the nation," Mr. Tu shared.
This morning, candidates taking the high school graduation exam will take one of two combined exams: natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology) or social sciences (history, geography, civics), each subject has a test time of 50 minutes.
This is also the last year that the high school graduation exam still has a combined exam. According to the high school graduation exam project from 2025, there will only be independent exams.
Statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training show that the number of candidates choosing the social science exam is overwhelming compared to the natural science exam. Specifically, this year, only 37% of candidates chose the natural science exam, the remaining 63% chose the social science exam.
