In recent days, traders have been present in Bac Giang, buying lychees at high prices to export abroad.
Although it is not yet the beginning of the season, in Luc Ngan and Luc Nam districts (Bac Giang province), people have begun harvesting early-ripening lychees to bring to sell at large lychee wholesale markets.
According to our observations at Kim market (one of the largest wholesale markets for lychees in Luc Ngan district), people from everywhere carry large warehouses of lychees to sell to traders.
Talking to us, Mr. Lai Van Thi (Cam Lang, Luc Nam, Bac Giang) said that this year's lychee crop failed, so the price is much higher than last year.
"Last year, early-season lychees cost from 15,000 to 20,000 VND/kg, this year the price is higher from 35,000 to 40,000 VND/kg, depending on the quality of the lychees," Mr. Thi shared.
People are happy because lychees are purchased at high prices.
Households with small quantities also take advantage of selling because the prices are good.
Small fabric baskets weigh only 25kg to 30kg
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut, a lychee trader in Kim town (Luc Ngan) shared: "This year, due to the poor lychee harvest, the price is twice as high as last year. A few days ago, we bought lychees for 50,000 VND/kg."
According to a local resident, depending on the quality of the fabric, the trader will negotiate a price. If the resident agrees, the trader will write a ticket with the price of the fabric. Then, the resident brings the fabric inside to be weighed.
Each full basket of cloth weighs about 200 kg and requires 3 to 4 strong people to carry it.
People’s baskets of lychees are pulled inside. Here, traders continue to check and classify the fruit, then chill it and pack it into styrofoam boxes for export to China.
